The Brightest Sunset (The Darkest Sunrise Duet Book 2) Kindle Edition
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

EPIC. DUET. HANGOVER.!!!!! Aly Martinez has once again tore open my heart and put it back together again!!!! THE BRIGHTEST SUNSET is easily one of my TOP reads EVERRRRR!!! And this duet is hands down one of my favourites of all time!!!!!!!!!
This PERFECT, soul shattering, heart thumping, nail biting conclusion to THE DARKEST SUNRISE was heartbreakingly beautiful from start to finish!!! I was a huge mess reading this book - one minute I was happy, the next I was welling up with tears, then happy again, and then wanting to throttle certain characters!!! My heart was just lodged in my throat the entire way through!!!!! I am not exaggerating when I say this had me on the edge of my seat!!!!!
Porter Reece is the ultimate book boyfriend! Gawwdddd!!! I just floved him to pieces!!! His resilience, his strength, his determination, his love!! Just WOW!!!! And Charlotte was an amazing heroine - she really shone through in this book and I loved the fact that she followed her heart throughout!!!! And that epilogue!!!! I cried happy tears!!! It was PERFECTION!!!!! Ms. Martinez is truly talented !!! Her unique narrative was flawless; the story unfolded perfectly; the characters had so much depth and dimension; and the story itself felt so real and yet was unpredictable!!!
This story is truly unforgettable and has found a very special place in my heart!! It needs to be on everyone's TBR list!!
He's not the only one who wants what's best for Travis. Of course, Porter's extended family all want that too, but, in a fickle twist of fate, and thanks to events outside Porter's knowledge or control, that circle of people who all want what's best for Travis extends to the the local constabulary, associated child protection officers, Porter's (former?) love interest who agrees to take the sick child on as a patient, and a few other individuals who are essentially strangers to both Porter and Travis.
The kicker is, many of them have opinions on "What's best" that differ markedly from Porter's own view, and with the legal obstacles put in his way, his ability to have any say in the matter could cease to exist entirely.
Building the drama and the tension worked up to in the epic conclusion of The Darkest Sunrise, Aly Martinez has fashioned a story where incipient love, the bonds of blood, and loyalties built over years are all called into question as parents and other interested parties all seek to set into effect their own agenda of "what's best" for Travis, even though very few of those interested parties ever bother to stop and ask Travis himself.
The conclusion to this outstanding duet is veritably overflowing with emotion, as almost the entire cast of characters are driven, each by love as they experience it, to go to the wall in pursuit of what they think is best, even as they each have to wonder if Travis will live long enough to see whatever resolution they all come to.
The writing is superb. The drama, intense. The conclusion?
The brightest Sunset continues right where the Darkest Sunrise leaves off with the same raw intensity and stirring of emotions. I honestly felt like I couldn't breathe until the very last page. The exasperation and turmoil in this story crushed me but none of that took away from the humorous banter and the deep love these characters all have for one another. * This is without a doubt my absolute Favorite Story of 2017! An Extraordinary MUST READ Book!
Talk about an epic emotional roller coaster that will take you through the whole range of emotions! This duet is by far one of my top reads this year, I've loved every single Aly Martinez book I've read but this duet just takes it to a whole other level. 5 stars simply isn't enough. I just loved it!
Again in this story we deal with sensitive issues about child illnesses, child custody and suicide.

After discovering the unbelievable truth about Travis, Porter is arrested and Charlotte struggles to contain the rising hatred between Porter and Brady while trying to bond with Travis. You just felt everything they all felt and understood all their pain. I so wanted to find a happy ending, but never wanted it to end. I haven't been so moved by a book for a long long time. I can't recommend this duet enough; you do of course need to read book one first. Absolutely Brilliant!!! Well done Aly Martinez.
This book picks up right where book one ended and almost immediately I sympathised with Charlotte once again, but it was Porter who really got to me. I've loved his charcter from the moment he appeared in the first book and the situation he found himself in in this final instalment gave his character so much more depth.
Like the first book this was one huge rollercoaster of a read with many twists and turns along the way.
This book for me was equally as good as the first, if not better and if you haven't yet read a book by Aly Martinez, I highly recommend that you do.
with a mother of all endings , l didn't think l could have coped
with waiting for the Brightest Sunset to be released.
For the last 2 days l have shut out the world and let these two books consume me.
l rarely come across books that leave me so anxious and breathless at once.
lt was a heavy subject matter , but handled with such finesse ,
and the love that came through in all it's forms was truly beautiful.
Such a beautiful duet , so well written that it's sure to leave it's mark.
I wasn't let down in the slightest. What a beautiful conclusion to this heart breaking duet. Even though it drags you through the ringer emotionally, there's no denying how gripping this story really is.
I think everyone needs to read this epic journey because it's to hard to explain the raw emotions these books bring out in you.
They need to be experienced first hand, nothing else will do.
