“Not sure where people like this exist!! Pages of dialogue, no censor or filter - they say what's on their mind because they are passionate.
A good story - ready to crack on with book 2 to follow on with the cliffhanger :)”

3.0 out of 5 stars Actions have consequences... 26 March 2014
By For the Love of Books - Published on

Ok…just gotta get this off my chest… AUTHORS…ENOUGH WITH THE FREAKING CLIFFHANGERS ALREADY!!!!! Admittedly, D. Kelly isn’t the only author that is guilty of this, but I’m just getting beyond irritated with almost every book that’s being published here lately ending with a damn cliffhanger. It’s not that I didn’t like this book, it’s just that I know I would have enjoyed it so much more if there hadn’t been a cliffhanger at the end.

With that being said…this was quite the emotion inducing read, filled with first loves, lost loves and finding new and fulfilling love. And talk about drama… well, this one had it in spades with plenty left over. The characters were adequately written, but I liked them better as couples than as individuals. I’m not sure if this was deliberately done in order to magnify the sense that they all seemed to be “broken”, in one way or another, and finding their “soul-mate” empowered them begin to heal. My favorites, Kate & Daniel and Connor & Jess really seemed to find personal growth and fulfillment from not only the direct relationship they shared within their own pairing, but also when the two couples interacted together. Everything just seemed so easy, effortless and comforting on a mental and emotional level to all of them. This didn’t seem to be the case when comparing the earlier relationship between Kate and Mike. I understand the need for closure with past relationships that end unexpectedly and without adequate explanation…but I just didn’t get the self-sacrificing decision Kate made at the end of the book to ensure the continuing friendship and familial bond between the “boys”, Connor, Daniel and Mike. In my opinion…Mike is just a selfish, thoughtless and self-serving "A"hole… you don’t end a long-term relationship with someone in such an ugly and hateful way, as Mike did with Kate, and then expect to not only try to enter back into that person’s live years later, but to even think you have any right to do so. If Mike regretted his past words and actions and truly cared for Kate and her happiness, he would have confirmed that Kate, firstly, wasn’t in a current relationship and secondly, that she was also in a healthy mental and emotional position to receive any form of contact with him. Mike even stated in the letter that he wrote to Kate that if she had moved on, that he would completely respect that and wouldn’t interfere with her happiness. However, none of this seems to be true once everyone realizes that the “Michael” from Kate’s past, is the same “Mike” that they know today. Here’s the thing that I would have liked for at least one, but preferably all of Kate’s friends to say to Mike, “Actions have consequences buddy…suck it up and deal with it!”

Alas, we shall have to wait and see if any of those “friends” will put Mike in his place. I’m really hoping that it will be Jess…cause I know she’ll add a well-earned “B" slap to whatever choice words she has for Mike as well.

3 stars ~Kathy

2.0 out of 5 stars Drama drama drama 13 May 2014

Good lord. This thing read more like a soap opera than a novel. There are a ton of characters, wealthy families, instalove, drama, drama, drama.

There's a lot of dialogue and we're told rather than shown what is going on and it's choppy. I'm not a fan of this writing style, and the storyline is interesting, but not interesting enough. The author paints Kate and Daniel as the ideal couple bonded by their insta-love and the stuff Daniel says is over the top romantic, almost to the point of being nauseating.

Some of the plot twists would have been more interesting if we knew more about the relationship between Kate and Connor. And then there's mention of Marc, who is supposed to be such a good friend, but we don't meet him until the very last 10% of the book. Weird.

There's one issue I have which is not a biggie, but annoying to me anyway and I'm kinda hoping that I misread something. Kate just turned 24 and 3 years ago she breaks up with her first boyfriend, so by arithmetic that would make her 21 when that happens. But it's written as if she hadn't yet started college and typically kids start college at 18 or 19, especially those from wealthy families, unless there's a major issue that causes the delay. So what happened in that intervening time?

Also the cliffhanger ending is just ridiculous and doesn't make any sense at all.

Spoiler-alert: this entire storyline takes place over two weeks, in which time Kate finds out that her father is going to marry her ex-boyfriend's mother; her best male friend is a former childhood playmate and that she met her current boyfriend when she was 5 and doesn't really remember it; she was kept away from her godmother and her family by her father; she stands to inherit $150 million in a year; her current boyfriend is best friends and colleagues with her ex-boyfriend; the ex-girlfriend of both her current and ex boyfriend is pregnant and one of them is the father. I'm sure I'm missing something here, but isn't that enough to make your head explode???? I'm exhausted after reading this thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT 7 May 2014

* ARC provided by author for an honest review *

Dee Kelly did an exceptional job on her debut novel. Breaking Kate is book one in The Acceptance Series. It was a very good read. I read it in one sitting I couldn't put it down. The characters were awesome. They seem like someone you could become best friends with.

Michael Matthews and Katherine Moore were best friends since the second grade. When they became freshman in high school their friendship turned to something else. They fell in love with each other. Years later a horrible tragedy struck on the night Michael was to propose to Katherine. A tragedy that would change their lives forever. Michael could no longer look at Katherine the same again and therefore ending their relationship.

Fast forward three years. Katherine now known as Kate is living with her best friend Jess. They have known each other forever and Jess knew all about the relationship with Michael. Kate was still not over it and spent all of her time buried in school books so she wouldn't have to think about him. With Kate's birthday coming up Jess and their friend Conner decided to invite his friend Daniel over to a party Conner was having and try to introduce him to Kate. Daniel was getting over a rough breakup and they thought they would be perfect for each other. Daniel owed his friend so he agreed.

When he arrived at the party and first laid eyes on Kate he thought she was Conners girl but when he introduced her as Kate Daniel stared and became very arrogant. Not the best first impression. Once they got to know each other it was love or so they thought. Just being together for three days they thought they could possibly love each other but were scared at how quickly they were moving. Neither one of them has ever been as open and honest as they were with each other. Daniel not wanting to had to leave Kate to go to work so they promised to meet up again that following weekend. When Daniel got home he was greeted by his friend Mike. Mike was drinking but Daniel being the friend he is knew he needed a friend to talk to at that moment.

Mike slept with any woman that he could get his hands on that would just have no strings attached sex. He was drowning his emotions of his horrible mistake he had made three years before. When he finally opens up to Daniel about Katherine and realizing he made the biggest mistake of his life Daniel told him to fight for her. Go find her and win her back. While attending an engagement party all of their paths cross and it leaves Kate with the hardest decision she will ever have to make in her life. Daniel or Mike?

Such a great read. Daniel was the best boyfriend ever and I really wish guys would read this and see how he treats Kate and take notes. I can not wait for the next book to come out. This one was written in everyone's point of views so it was nice to know what was going through everyone's head. I loved it!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG!!!!!! Twists and turns and lots of love 26 March 2014

First off, thank you Dee, for allowing me to read this ARC. Secondly, I knew from the start this would have a "cliffhanger" of sorts since this is the first book in a series, but really? Oh my Gosh!!! My heart has been twisted and wrenched out. I LOVE the three POV's throughout the book. It gives so much more insight of what is really going on. I fell in love with Daniel the first second he walked through the door at Conner's. Michael had me pissed so I was glad Conner and Jess set Kate up with Daniel. I know all about soul mates and love at first site, cuz in May I will be married to my soul mate and love at first site for 20 years(25 1/2 yrs together), so when both Kate and Daniel felt all that too, I believed it to be true. I can't really give more info into my review as I hate spoilers and don't include them in mine, but I CANNOT wait for book two. Literally, so I hope book two is near completion and out soon because I need to know!!!!!!!!!
