Not to give too much away, but this is a fast-paced book that keeps you turning pages until the end. You’re also want to get to the end so that you find out what the cliff-hangers are…. Boy were they good! The sexy scenes are super-hot and there are enough of them as to not dominate the book, but boy does Rocky have some sass in these scenes and Xavier comes across as a guy who knows what he’s doing 😉
This is a must read if you like the bully romance/enemies to lover’s type genre.
ARC received for a fair and honest review.
After reading the blurb to this book I was well and truly intrigued and knew I had to read it. If you are a fan of LJ Shen, this book will tick all the boxes for you. To say this book is a replica of anything that LJ Shen has written would be an absolute lie. The similarity for me was that both authors know how to write heartless Heroes in their books. And boy is it magnificent to read.
This is truly an enemies to lovers book. Xavier and Rocky are worlds apart. And their first meeting clearly defined them by their social status. The haves and the have nots. Two opposites who towards the end of the book have more in common than you could imagine. The push and pull between the pair was exceptional and I literally could not put this book down.

Hello plot twist! Thanks for that slap in the face!
Where do i even begin? We follow Xavier and Rocky in their tension filled, suspenseful, hot as hell journey! Both from different sides of the track and polar opposites its a beautiful disaster waiting to happen. There is no love loss between the two when they first meet but wow is their sexual tension hotter than satans balls.
Filled with drama, lies, mystery and a plot twist that will blow your mind and slap you upside the head, i swear you will be consumed by this book and spat back out wanting to dive in all over again. With no shortage of surprises, revelations and shocking moments this book has it all and the definition of enemies to lovers in my opinion.
Incredible characters each with their own haunting and heartbreaking pasts, coming together to take us on an amazing ride. Well developed and thought out. Complexities and misconceptions that will have you reeling. Growth on both sides that when they finally hit that peak its a beautiful unravel of their journey as a whole.
I didnt understand how or why a few of the sentences were structured how they were but it didnt detract from the story as a whole. This author is new for me so maybe its their preference, so to each their own.
I highly recommend this book to any bullymance enemies to lover enthusiast or just anyone in general. I absolutely loved this book.
Rocky is a fighter; she has been fighting since the day she was born. When she is face to face with Xavier, they have so much hate in their eyes they continue a cat and mouse game which leads to Rocky being put in a very serious situation, one that Xavier enjoyed putting her in.
This is my first MV Ellis novel and while I certainly enjoyed the writing, I have found that I am not a fan of the “Bully” romance.

The story follows Xavier, a privileged white college student. He openly admits that he’s not the nicest guy (the opening scene with him banging another girl showcases that well). When he meets Rocky, it’s hate at first sight. She challenges him in ways he never expected to like, and she keeps showing sides of herself that he begrudgingly respects. They go from never having seen each other to running into one another all the time, and each interaction only intensifies their feelings - the good and the bad. When Xavier discovers who Rocky’s brother is, it changes the dynamic of the relationship and he’s not sure how to feel about that. There’s as much hate between them as there is love, but it’s definitely a journey to cross from one to the other.
I think this is exceptionally well written - I’ve read plenty of bully romances and they can be hit or miss for me. Xavier certainly takes things to the extreme, but there’s an undercurrent of like/lust/love there too. The more he gets to know Rocky, the more things change for him and he’s not really built to know how to handle the emotional overload. I really, really liked his character (though sometimes I wondered why) and saw him grow throughout the book. I also loved how strong Rocky is - her reactions were always unexpected, and they kept Xavier on his toes. This is an extremely steamy book but it’s about more than sex - there’s a slow emotional burn and we get to know these characters well. Add in the bully storyline, and it’s a rich, multi-faceted book. It’s my first time reading something by this author but it won’t be my last, that’s for sure. I received a free copy via Booksprout - then purchased it for my collection - and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a really well written novel. MV Ellis knows how to write a book and this proved it. It delivers a compelling plot and well build character development. The characters broke stereotypes and have dynamic relationships with fun dialogues. This book is definitely a hate before, I love you trope.
The book is shockingly fast-paced and fresh as a whip. It’s got complex characters and a fast plot. You find yourself falling prey to Xavier’s dashing looks and yet flinch at the ethical motive of his dark side. He’s a big sturdy guy who, by every definition, is dangerous, rude and obnoxious. He was also a pushover and I didn’t think I was going to like him. At first I wasn’t a big fan, he seemed a little too standoffish and rude. But dang, he handled himself like a champ in bad situations, started to act on his feelings for Rocky and I eventually ended up liking him just as a great deal as I liked Rocky.
I absolutely adored Rocky! She was hilarious, strong, squared off. She was also damaged, guarded, sassy, but by the deities, you root for her every step of the way. You see her grow a backbone, and become the person she is meant to be and it's a compelling transforming.
The author wrote great character growth between these two. They both had awesome chemistry. Rocky and Xavier got together eventually, much later after the tug of war between them, and I’m glad that their relationship didn’t happen Overnight. It was tumultuous, witty, piquant and fun to watch how they both tried to pretend that they hate and not like each other.
This novel had a very compelling plot. It’s a great tale of a two different people who faces off with a very powerful outside force. The built, mystery and suspense in this book is truly well done and I can’t stress it enough.
The plot was unspoiled, and it really flowed. These types of books tend to be boring because too much information is pile and this sometimes makes it complicated, but MV Ellis did a splendid job of smashing this stereotype and turn it into a hit.
So if you're interested in a phenomenal plot and narrative elements, with a building romance, this is your book.
It's worth reading, so please do so.
Break You by M.V. Ellis takes the Bully Romance genre to a whole new level!
Xavier and Rocky absolutely hate each other upon meeting, yet are drawn to one another at the same time. Xavier is the silver spooned, loaded, king of the campus, and Rocky is the “scholarship” girl who works for everything she has and has a chip on her shoulder. Anytime these two are in the vicinity of one another sparks fly, and a verbal battle ensues between them. When they are paired up for an assignment together, they do everything they can to get out of it, but Rocky needs the grade, and Xavier wants to get closer to her once he realizes just who she is.
Neither one of these characters wants to admit there is something between them, and Xavier has a vendetta against Rocky and she has no clue about it. She’s being tormented and doesn’t put two and two together, and it makes for quite an interesting read. I really did enjoy the back and forth between these two characters and the battle of wills and how Rocky truly did not put up with any of Xavier’s crap, but… how all the truths from all the lies came out, really irked me. I expected more, and when one of the truths came out, it just didn’t add up to me and had me scratching my head. I think if this part of the book wouldn’t have been so anti-climatic I would have loved this book, but instead I felt let down.
All in all, if you are a lover of bully romances, and a ton of angst, this is a book that you will definitely enjoy. Xavier takes bullying and hotness to a new level, and Rocky definitely gives him a run for his money every step of the way.
Rocky and Xavier are bringing the heat to some crazy levels in Break You. The chemistry is off the charts hot!
Rocky is the most bad a** female I've read in a long time. Her humour is on point and she doesn't put up with anyone's crap, I loved her!
Great 5 star book
