I've read nearly all of this authors Paranormal/shifters series and I love her work so I thought why not try her new series and I wasn't disappointed! First let me say it was a great length, not to short!!!!
I don't mind a 2nd chance love story and Gavin and Jordan reconnecting was so sweet.
Gavin was pretty much perfect! I've heard the author say she doesn't like jerky H's and for this I am truly thankful!!!! He really was amazing and thoughtful and so very devoted to Jordan.
Jordan was great also, loved her character and her daughters.
The story was well paced and developed, though on occasion it did feel a little predictable, especially on who the person responsible for all the drama/fires. Not bad necessarily, just no big surprises.
Really enjoyed all the secondary characters, Gavin's parents and especially Gavin's brothers, and am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

My first book by Sara and I have to admit I could not put it down. Loved the storyline, the heartfelt passion between Jordan and Gavin! A must read book:)
Reviewed in Australia on 4 September 2015
BRAVE THE HEAT is the first installment in Sara Humphreys contemporary adult The McGuire Brothers romance series focusing on the McGuire brothers from the fictional town of Old Brookfield, New England. This is Fire Chief Gavin McGuire, and divorced mother Jordan McKenna’s second chance storyline.
Told from dual third person perspectives BRAVE THE HEAT focuses on the rebuilding of a relationship between Jordan and Gavin-two people whose lives were destroyed fifteen years earlier when Jordan walked away and never looked back. Following her divorce, with her two young daughters in tow, Jordan returns to Old Brookfield and the past that has all but haunted her life. Knowing Gavin is now the Fire Chief wasn’t a surprise, but the pain and hurt in his eyes, was more than Jordan could bear.
Gavin have never stopped loving Jordan McKenna. For fifteen years he has constantly thought about the one that got away; the whys and the what fors; never once coming close to understanding the reasons why Jordan ran without saying goodbye. Jordan’s return to Old Brookfield reawakens lost emotions and needs for Gavin but also for the woman he has never forgotten. But Gavin’s need to pursue Jordan will be placed on hold when an arsonist puts a plan into action forcing Gavin to walk away when yet, another loss, adds to Gavin’s already heightened sense of guilt and betrayal.
The relationship between Gavin and Jordan has already been established; BRAVE THE HEAT is a second chance romance for two people whose lives changed the day Jordan ran and never looked back. In fifteen years neither one took the opportunity to contact one another or rekindle the friendship, and it is the loss of time that hurts the most. The romance is seductive without the over the top graphic sexual content.
We are introduced to the secondary and supporting characters including Gavin’s brothers: Ronan, Tristan, Finn and Dillon; their mother Carolyn and father Charles who are about to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary; and Jordan’s best friend Maddie, along with her fire fighter boyfriend Rick. Several townsfolk play a role throughout the story including one that is both frightening and deadly. Jordan’s ex husband makes a cameo appearance but his storyline fizzles without resolution.
The world building focuses on the relationship between Jordan and Gavin, and Jordan’s return to her home town but it also looks at the fires threatening a small town and its people. The McGuire family is a well to do and well loved family in Old Brookfield, and it is their history that the local school principal likes to remember and reminisce.
BRAVE THE HEAT is an entertaining, engaging and fun read. The premise is intriguing and impassioned; the characters are colorful, family oriented and spirited; the romance is emotional and intense. Sara Humphreys writes a passionate tale of second chances, friendships and loss.

Fire Chief Gavin McGuire’s feelings for Jordan is just as raw as the day she left but when a series of suspicious fires breaks out he realizes that the sparks between them is the least dangerous of his problems in this sensational contemporary romance. I love Sara Humphrey’s paranormal books so I was excited to try her new contemporary and I have to say that she did a sensational job. The story is compelling with wonderful characters and I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the McGuire Brothers and if they are as sexy as Gavin, I will be able to add them all to my collection of hot book boyfriends.

Pricey for me but I enjoyed it. Jordan is a beautiful young woman with a lot going for her now that she's out of a bad marriage. She is the loving and devoted mother to two adorable little girls, has a bit of money from her divorce settlement, has a good friend who always has her back, and she has a hometown to return to that gives her a base. Gavin, the hero, is the well-respected Fire Chief of that hometown. He comes complete with good looks, a wonderfully tight-knit family and a group of firefighters that he is committed to. Jordan returns to Old Brookfield to start fresh and to be closer to her parents while putting distance between her ex and her daughters. Jordan and Gavin have a history from 15-years ago so when they run into each other at the elementary school right after Jordan's return, there are some bad feelings that have them dancing around one another. The author nicely tells their story which allows half-truths to be discovered and corrected and ultimately J and G agree that they can't go back but they can move forward. They do so at a nice pace while backstories are built around Jordan's forgiving of her Dad's past hurts, a serial arsonist in town who costs a life or two, and Jordan finding her new place as an independent, single Mom.
A big plus for me is the careful way that the author rebuilt Jordan's relationship and trust with Gavin. They were young when they were initially involved but they cared deeply for one another. There are only a couple of love scenes but they have a very, very nice level of heat and are well written. I also appreciated the family dynamics, especially at Gavin's parents' anniversary celebration. That had fun written all over it. Grace and Lilly were total cuteness and the author painted them well, as she did most of the characters. The book is well edited and has a good pace. I didn't love the angsty moments that Gavin had towards the end. He's a strong guy and for a few pages, he was a shell of himself. I "get" that one event shook him deeply but he's a tough guy with a stellar support system so his total withdrawal was out of character. Also, there were a couple of characters that seemed to abruptly get lost in the book...lost as in not heard from again rather than dead.
Definitely worth the read and I look forward to the Ronan's story up next (I think.) Note that on my ereader, this story ends on page 318 so while the book is 348-pages long the final 30-pages are other "stuff".

A second chance love story
Jordan and Gavin was very much in love at eighteen until Jordan just left one day. And because of miscommunication and lies they have been living their lives apart for 15years. But now Jordan has come back to her hometown with her two little girls. Hoping she can make a better life for them. Seeing Gavin again after all these years, she is confronted with lots of feelings, especially whether she made the right choice all those years ago.
Gavin has never forgotten Jordan. She broke his heart, and now suddenly she’s back in their home town. With her two adorable little girls. And once he finds out that she’s divorced, he sees it as the opportunity to maybe have another chance at the future he always wanted.
But things are not so easy. There is an arsonist in their midst, and Gavin must put a stop to it before another tragedy strikes their town. He also has his own demons that still haunts him from a different fire when he was young, one that he blames himself for.
I really enjoyed this book. Second chance romances are not my favorite trope, but I did enjoy this one. We all make mistakes, and most of the time it’s very difficult to fix those mistakes, or to get another chance at what you really wanted. And I must say I was very happy that Gavin and Jordan got another chance at their HEA. Both of them haven’t had easy lives, and Jordan especially had a rough childhood, which was the reason why she left all those years ago. And seeing her and Gavin face their demons and overcoming their fears was wonderful.
The plot with the arsonist was interesting, and I was very happy that I was correct in my suspicions about who the culprit was. There was also some sadness when someone died, which was very heartbreaking.
Sara Humpreys is known to me because of her PNR novels, which I love, and I was very happy that I liked her contemporary work too. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.

Romance Between The Sheets

3 Hearts for Gavin & Jordan
Reviewed in the United States on 18 August 2016Verified Purchase
BRAVE THE HEAT is a second-chance romance between Gavin and Jordan, who broke up fifteen years ago. When they see each other again after all those years, anger and attraction are mixed together and make an interesting combination. Both are stubborn and angry at the other for different reasons, so it takes a while for them to sort it all out and move past it.
BRAVE THE HEAT wasn’t a bad read, but it didn’t really win me over either. It’s a nice story, but it was a little slow and predictable. I found some of the narrative to be repetitive, so I ended up skipping a lot of the paragraphs that didn’t include conversations, and I don’t feel as though I missed anything. Gavin and Jordan and very likeable characters, but I sometimes struggled with their emotions, which would turn on a dime; one second they’d be fine, and the next second they’d be angry for reasons I couldn’t understand. The story ends suddenly at the 79% mark and didn’t really have the feel of a HEA, but it technically is a HEA. BRAVE THE HEAT is told in dual POVs and is part of a series, but each book will be about a different brother, so I’m assuming each book should be able to be read as a stand-alone.

Great start to a new series

I'm a sucker for a second chance at love story - and one that is packed with action and intrigue as well as a hit of heat and romance definitely piques my interest!!!
Jordan runs back to the place the people that she ran from to escape her abusive father years ago - it broke her to leave it all behind but she made the best of things, even if it meant never seeing the boy she loved. Now she returns to lick her wounds after a divorce and to begin a new life with her two little girls.
The hurt and heartbreak that Gavin suffered when Jordan left years ago is understandable but his need and resolve to take care of her and her daughters, regardless of what happened in their past, was instinctual and nigh on unstoppable.
The story moved along quite quickly and the mystery surrounding the fires was interesting and kept me guessing through the read.
The supporting characters were all really likeable and I'm looking forward to finding out more about Gavin's family!
'Brave the Heat' was a really good read. I liked both Gavin & Jordan from the outset and from the get go hoped that they could rekindle their love and passion - but with a series of fires and mysterious goings on happening all around them I began to wonder if they would get the chance to work things out and get to know each other again!
Sara Humphreys started this new series with, what was for me, a 5* read that I would definitely recommend and I can't wait to get my hands on more of the McGuire Brothers!
