I found it an excellent book, very well illustrated (including sliced scans of the brain front to back so I can at last see where the various areas are located). Covers many aspects including origins. very detailed in the main texts. Divided into neat logical sections with a continuity running through them. All diagrams are well labeled with relevant bits coloured. While studying neurobiology it's handy to have open there to check where diagrams in other texts fail.
The quality of the book itself is excellent - illustration paper, hard cover and it does lie flat when open. But it's a big book, be aware!

This book puts a complex subject into simple everyday terms that anyone can understand. There are interesting associated facts & information within each section. The photography & illustrations are beautifully done. I purchased it as i am a practicing hypnotherapist & needed a good book but easy to understand book on neurology. A very worthwhile purchase.

Brilliance!

This book is amazing. It arrived quickly and once opened was a complete joy. The illustrations are large, clear and engaging, the explanation for each section makes absolute sense and the array of fascinating information about the brain is easy to follow and wonderfully interlinked with the illustrations, diagrams and scans throughout the book. The book is divided into different sections too, making it easy to find information around the point you're interested in. I bought it for interesting reading alongside an Access Course and I am certain to say it was and is both helpful and intriguing and that owning it will be a real advantage when I go to university next year! It is important to note that the book does not explain every tiny facet of detail and that having pre-existing knowledge around the structure of the brain and the process of neurotransmission, to a very basic level, is important before trying to make sense of it.

This looks like a brilliant introducton to wrapping my mind around the complexity of the brain. The brain, the mind, the soul and the psyche have fascinated me for as long as I can remember and this book will add layers to my accumulating understanding.

Great first book on the brain!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 April 2016Verified Purchase
Every page is packed with great diagrams, and very easy to dip into. This is the one to buy if you are curious on the "science" of the brain (both anatomy and behaviour). Whilst this is a "popular science" type book for lay people - it seems precise and accurate enough for you to know what to search for when wanting to exploring an area further.
