Considering the topic, this book is nowhere near as confronting as I expected and I guess I’m ok with that. Personally, I never particularly enjoyed horror so I’m glad to read about school shootings in this format rather than graphic reality. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think this is soft soaping anything, it’s just presented in a way that didn’t leave me shaking and crying. The thing is that school shootings haven’t happened in my country and reading this book only serves to confirm my ideas on gun ownership and the craziness in the USA. I’m so glad I don’t live there. I don’t know how anyone can consider a place like that the “greatest country in the world”. Overall this is a well written drama woven around a sweet romance. I enjoyed the ending though I felt we were left with some unanswerable questions (as we often are in the real world).
