Product Description

According to the law of attraction, women and men can’t be friends.

Contrary to this myth, my friendship with Coriander Phillips does not rest on unrequited love or un-actualized lust. We’ve been inseparable since the day I pulled one of her pigtails and she punched me in the gut.
She’s hilarious, fun to hang out with. Together, we’re like peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, wings and beer. A match made in heaven.
She’s the bomb.
Did I mention she’s smokin’ hot? I’ve checked her out…maybe once or twice. Hey, I’m a guy.
Seriously, no awkwardness, no secret yearning for our relationship to escalate beyond the purely platonic. I’m the boy friend—the loyal shoulder she cries on, the dispenser of coffee, sympathy, hugs, advice, and affection with no expectations.
Until the invisible line between friends and lovers became blurry.
Now I want more. I want her.
All I have to do is convince her we can be more than friends.
Right?
If only it were that easy.

The Boyfriend is a ‘friends to lovers’/contemporary romance from Mika Jolie. I love everything that Ms. Jolie has written and this book is no exception. I actually think this is her best book yet.
Dean Marcello and Coriander Phillips met 20 years ago while they were both in elementary school. Cori had mistaken Dean as a schoolyard bully and had come to her friend’s rescue, by punching Dean in the stomach. She didn’t know that Dean was her friend’s brother. Dean then pulled her hair and so this began a friendship that has spanned the years and stood the test of time.
Dean is a charming know-it-all and a good friend to Cori. But he’s also a bit of a player. He’s a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy and he’s happy with the way things are- he won't do sleep-overs, he doesn’t date or do relationships and he certainly isn’t interested in a wife or children.
Cori, on the other hand has realised that her biological clock is ticking quite loudly and she really wants the whole fairy-tale package- the white picket fence, her loving Prince Charming/ husband and bouncing bundle of joy. She definitely wants her HEA and wont’ be talked out of it.
When Cori starts to put her plans into motion and mentions internet dating sites to Dean, something changes and Dean begins feel things he can’t quite explain, and then to see things in a new light. Will Cori and Dean ever be on the same page? Will Dean come to appreciate what has been sitting in front of him this whole time and been so obvious to everyone else? Can they ever be more than just friends? If they cross that line, will their friendship be ruined forever? Will the y risk it all for a chance at love?
This isn’t your typical ‘friends to lovers’ story- it is Ms.

Dean Morello and Coriander Phillips have been friends for twenty years. Friends ever since their very first meeting. A chance meeting in the school playground when she punched him after he pulled her hair. They are the best of friends and have been inseparable all this time. She is the Ying to his Yang. He his her boy friend. Not to be mistaken with boyfriend. She needs advice, no problem he is there. She needs a shoulder to cry on he’s her man. She needs a hug, no problem. She is one of the guys, she is fun, loving, loyal, a free spirit, heart of gold and smoking hot but they are just friends, a purely platonic relationship. Until it’s not.

Dean is having trouble with what he feels. Feelings he has never felt before. Feelings that are as strange as they are complicated and conflicting. He is now seeing one of his best friends is a different light. Dean finds himself thinking about more than a best friend should. He wants Coriander as more than the boy friend, he wants to be the boyfriend. He only has one problem he has to show her they can be more than friends.

As the book says “According to the law of attraction, women and men can’t be friends”.

Will Dean reconcile his feelings in time? Will Dean break her heart? Will Dean lose the best thing he never knew he wanted? Will he confess all before it is too late? Is Coriander willing to step over the proverbial line from best friends to lovers?

I really enjoyed this story. It was told by the male point of view in a very unique and clever way. I found myself constantly laughing at the things he said, thought and did, typical man stud. There were however a few moments when I wanted to slap him into gear. If you are looking for a little comedic romance then no need to look any further. Mika is a very clever story teller. This is definitely a hit, I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Men and Women can’t be friends, at least that what everyone says. But Coriander Phillips and Dean Morello are best friends and have been since Dean pulled Cori’s pigtail in the playground and Cori punched him in the gut twenty years ago. Dean and Cori are inseparable, they have been through lots together, Cori is his Ying to his Yang. Everyone around these two can see that they have chemistry that is off the charts and they are waiting for Cori and Dean to open their eyes and see it too. Cori and Dean don’t want to risk losing their friendship if they ever cross the line to something more, it’s too important to both of them. If you love a friends to lover’s story then The Boy Friend won’t let you down.
I loved this story and I loved it even more because for once we are told the story from the male point of view. This story is about friendship, family and love. The way Mika Jolie has you connecting with the characters goes to show how good and author she really is. I laughed out loud and had tears in my eye’s while reading but I can honestly say that I have never said “Men are so stupid” as many times as I did while reading this one and I felt like I needed to jump into my IPad to smack Dean over the head!
This is the second book I have read from Mika Jolie and it won’t be the last because she is definitely on my one click list.

Ok so who wrote the law that men and women can’t be just friends?
If it has been written then it’s wrong according to Dean.

This book is quite comical in place reading advice from Dean when dealing with men and he gives an insight as to what men really are like and want. Well men like him anyway.
You see for him there is no way he is getting into a relationship and being tied down with a wife and kids. This coming from a person who can see how good marriage can be just from watching his parents. So, he embarks on a life of sleeping with women and never spending the night, one might say collecting notches in his belt.

Enter best female friend Coriander. They have been friends since childhood when she punched him in the stomach for being nasty to his younger sister Kate. Besides his mother and sister Coriander is the only other constant woman in his life and that is not something that he is about to change for anyone. On one of their weekly platonic dates she tells him she wants a not only a baby but the whole thing, relationship, baby and home. After not being able to talk her out of it, what is a best friend to do? Well this best friend came up with a list of questions that the prospective baby daddy must pass, fail on and he is no good for his Coriander.

Then there is his mom and dad, who are pressing him to have grandchildren with Coriander. Every time they bring up the subject he tells them Coriander and he are just friends. But are they? After a night, out when Coriander is let’s say drunk, on leaving the karaoke bar she kisses Dean on the lips, what is he to do but respond. After all he is red blooded male right, after she stops the kiss he tells her he is going to kiss her again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensuously hot and steamy yet funny and emotional 30 April 2017

A downright witty and erotic story about Dean, who had suddenly realized that he had been having outrageous thoughts about his best friend Cori, to whom he'd developed a huge attraction, is brilliantly told from a male POV.

How do you balance out having sinful thoughts and feelings for your best friend, wanting the relationship to be more, yet being hesitant because you are afraid that if you cross the line it might put your friendship in jeopardy?

Cori was genuinely sweet and uncomplicated while Dean was a charming manwhore; a mr-know- all; dishing out outrageous advice, that made me laughed so hard, I couldn't stop turning the pages.

The Boy Friend is sensuously hot and steamy and packed with humor. It was fresh and engaging with a lovable hero and heroine and a delightful group of secondary characters who helped to bring a realistic feel to the story and made it flow smoothly and freely. If you are looking for a funny, sexy and emotional roller coaster ride then Dean is the man for you... I meant, this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend this book because It has easily became one of my favorites.

Mika Jolie continues to grow. She is one of my favorite authors. Every time I've read one of her books, I'd felt like it's her best one yet and then I get to the next one and I'm doing it all over again. I can honestly say she's done it again. This is another one of her sizzling masterpiece. How will she ever be able top this one. I'm excited for what's to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biten and down for the count 15 May 2017

This is an awesome story the author has written from a man's point of view. Dean is the bestie of Coriander. Thiers is a friendship that began in elementary school. The story is filled with moment after moment of Dean's life as a man on a mission to just enjoy life and the women that he has countless encounters with. However, he is taken back because his BFF tells him she wants to settle down on and find a husband. He is tormented at her search and knows he doesn't want to lose what they have. He gets into a minor power struggle with one of the guys Cori dates. None of the men are good enough for her in his mind. He verbally tries to sabotage all of them.
His family and her grandmother seem to think Cori is just who he needs in his life. His sister Kate doesn't! Cori and Kate are BFF's too. Kate warns him of his DEATH if he hurts Cori.
Then the unthinkable happens, they KISS and his life is forever turned on its axis. What happens to them is tragic and laughable on many fronts.
His was a funny and revealing adventure in the discovery of what love is and the person who was and is your other half.
I LOVED this story and celebrate how it was told by a woman who pulled back the covers on the male mind and way of doing things..GREAT READ..
5.0 out of 5 stars I love EVERY SINGLE THING about this book 2 May 2017

I love EVERY SINGLE THING about this book. I have tried for days to read it but things like work and sleep got in the way, not today - I love it being told from Dean's POV and you could feel his rollercoaster ride to falling in love with Cori, then you have Cori who is completely relatable. There are times reading this book where your jaw drops or you're gripping your kindle in the death grip. It's that good.

My only hope is maybe finding out if the thing that Cori wanted to begin with happens for them???

Still I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you make time and enjoy Dean and Cori on their adventure we call love.

Quick, fun read. I enjoyed the voice the author gave to Dean but I never really connected to Cori and him as best friend let alone a couple. It felt like we spent more time in Dean's head than we did on the actual relationship he had with Cori.
I actually felt like I knew more about Cam and Lucas than I did Cori by the time I was finished reading. That being said, I'm really interested in a follow up story with Lucas!
