Recommended, amount of scripture may be a challenge for non-christians
4 April 2018
As someone who has issues with boundaries, I did find this book useful. I had understood that I had a boundary problem and had been working to address it, with very modest success. This book helped me understand why I have these problems, which was something that years of therapy hadn't gotten me to. Thank you, authors.
So, the book itself. I would definitely recommend it to someone who needs to set boundaries. I would also say two things to non-christians - scripture is quoted thick and fast early in the book, which was difficult for me to get through, and that I'd still recommend it - especially if christians played a strong role in your childhood (e.g. parents, teachers, grandparents). The scripture did get less intense about 1/3 through.
One of the particularly important things I got out of this book was how others had incorrectly applied christian teachings about discipline and tolerance of abuse in my childhood, and how that impacted my natural development of boundaries.
