5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, Intriguing and Emotional

This is a really well written book that is hard to put down and it takes you on a journey of the author where you don't just see Ruqsana's success but the struggles she faced behind it all, in the book we read about her fights and I don't mean the ones in the ring where she bouted for her world championship title BUT her battle with many things in life.

Culturally; fighting the stereotypes of being an Asian Muslim woman in this day and age, something most people, especially us men, tend to take for granted. Spiritually; as a Muslim woman having to find faith to help her in her journey, not just as a fighter but as a human being playing many roles. Emotionally; don't get me started but read it for yourself andf find out. Physically; as an athlete I'm sure you can all guess.

This is why Born Fighter is an inspiring story, not just for a fighter in the ring but a fighter in all battles that comes with life. Read it and see it for yourself, domn't take my word for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting just to read about the Muslim culture

I was never any good in my Religious Education lessons as it simply didn't interest me however when its put into a real world context (like in this book) it makes it more relatable and you can really visualise what it must have been like to be Roxy in this book.

I write this review yet I am only up to chapter 8 however it is excellent and very readable and gives a real insight to Muslim culture and arranged marriages with details of how divorce isn't really an option and is frowned upon, in spite of the circumstances being undertaken.

I participated in Muay Thai for a number of years and the level of discipline to become a world champion is frightening (I'm not one BTW) yet to achieve a degree at the same time, have been through a horrible marriage, suffer crippling panic attacks and hold down several jobs is nothing short of remarkable.

A fully deserved champion of life and not just for Muay thai!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving biography filled with pain, perseverance and passion.

This is one of the best biographies I have read. In spite of some of the hardest lessons one can only learn through life, it does never succumb to self-pity, nor does it surrender to egotism in times of hard-won victories in and outside the ring. This is the story of a personal journey that resonates intimately and candidly with many of us. The tone is right and Ruqsana's self-awareness is the leading thread that makes her journey from an ordinary traditional Bangladeshi family in Northeast London to the coveted Muay Thai world champions' summit so compelling. It is hard to believe that such a young heart has already lived a life filled with so many cultural, social, academic and physical challenges, but it is this young and passionate heart who tells us what lessons we can draw from her own spiritual and physical downfalls and recoveries. Beautifully written all the way through, it is a 'must read' for people in search of a better self and my 8 years old has already found a powerful new source of inspiration.
