I thought this would be a great option for the tub. I hate toys that fill with water and grow unspeakable things inside the dark, moist openings that are impossible to clean. This seemed perfect. The water bugs float, and are easy to grab with little hands in the tub. I like the ease of using the net to scoop up the toys after bath time, so I don't have to suffer the pain of accidentally stepping on bath toys I forgot to clear out of my shower. I can only give it 2 stars because the handle of the net has a hole and fills with water. Yuck!
My toddler occasionally plays with this toy during bath time. We bought this when she was about 16 months. She very quickly went from not having enough fine motor skill to suddenly mastering it over night, and it's just not challenging at all. Simplicity would be fine if there were more bugs (like 10 or 12). But after she fishes all three bugs in a matter of seconds, my toddler always comments that the other colors are missing (there aren't any others). She is convinced I've lost them, and the tiny dictator begins chastising me for my irresponsibility!
I have had these for about 6 months and my 20 month old just has not taken to them as of yet. I've tried showing him that he can scoop all sorts of things in his net - he likes to take things out of the net instead of using the net to catch things.
