To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

This author is quite new to me, but having read the first book, I just had to keep reading! These books are different to most others, as they are gripping, realistic and believable. If you enjoy reading on the edge of your seat, this book is for you. I hope he keeps writing for a long time to come!

loved bombproof i almost read the book straight of the top but saved some for the next day. I also finished Good Girl bad girl. Michael Rowbotham is a great writer and looking forward to reading more of his stuff.

Great book focusing on Victor Ruiz who is often a minor character in this series. Great plot with twists.

TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Sami has a knack of being in the right place at the wrong time and always seems to dig himself deeper into trouble. All he really wants is to become a rock god and look after his younger sister. But Nadia is missing and every move to find her puts him deeper and deeper in trouble.
Bombproof is a gritty, coarse and satirical story of London’s criminal underbelly and how an ordinary guy, who just wanted to play guitar, brought them unstuck.
Robotham has mixed a colourful, well developed cast of characters with a storyline that will make you squirm and hold your breath leading up to an adrenalin pumping finish.

This is not the usual Robotham. But none the worse for that.
If you want a totally plausible 'conventional' crime drama, and your corsets are so tightly laced you can hardly breath let alone dare laugh, then perhaps avoid. The 1 star reviews cover this ground well.
So no it's not completely serious and if you take it as such you'll be wasting your money, and missing a treat. Yes it's a police drama but 'not as we know it Captain'.
This book gripped me more than any other in the series, held me, delivered chortle after chortle, and the occasional outright laugh.

Not the best from this author

When choosing a tense thriller Mr Robotham is near the top of my list. Not this time though I'm sad to say. Doesn't compare with the O'Laughlin series and suffers for it lacking the reflection and contrast provided in the Joe O and Vincent Ruiz pairing. Plot is terrible also. Very poor, reads like an imitation Lee Child. Gets a third star only because is written by Robotham who can and hopefully will do better and return to form.

Well shy of his best

The improbable tale here killed this book for me. We have an innocent guy (Sami Macbeth) just released from prison, having completed his term. He searches for his missing sister, remains in non-stop trouble, gets involved in what appears to be terrorist activity and escapes from incredible situations multiple times.
The now retired detective Ruiz also features as someone who tries to help Sami. We also have corruption and a number of unanswered questions. There are a couple of good lines in the book but the writing lacks richness and the characterizations the author is usually able to develop.
I finished Robotham's "Shatter' not too long ago; "Bombproof' is a long way off the standard Robotham set in that book and others prior to it. 7/10

So disappointing!

I'm a great fan of Michael Robotham's O'Loughlin novels, so bought this looking forward to similar sensitive, authentic, high quality writing. But this could have been rattled off by a completely different author. One with scant regard not only for his readers' intelligence but also for plausibility of plot and characterisation.
I read it to the end out of curiosity and to see just how silly the finale would be. But I started skimming at about the three quarter mark when it became clear that all hope of realism had been cheerfully abandoned. Substituted by Hollywood-style action, with the cliche scenarios accelerating in frequency.
I could understand if this had been a very early novel. But the inclusion of Ruiz and the references to his friend O'Loughlin clearly show that it post-dates at least one of them.
Written to a deadline for a quick payoff perhaps? But at what risk to his reputation with previous fans like me!
