5.0 out of 5 starsHighly recommend this as a seminal book on the subject matter
8 May 2017
Excellent book. Highly recommend it. It both taught me a lot and resonated / validated a lot of what I have been and am going through. A thorough profile of reasons, research and remedies related to many mental health issues, in a manner that is a delight to read. A book for both the person who has suffered and those who support them. A book I imagine I will re-read and/or refer to often while navigating through my own trauma.

As a psychologist of over 28 years experience, I can highly recommend many of the body and awareness-based therapeutic approaches summarised in this book. Talk therapy alone does not even make a dent in most trauma, and only gives psychology a bad reputation. This book is not the whole answer, but it's a damned good place to start exploring!

5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome book on an important topic

BVDK's book is a very important update on the treatment on trauma and offers some practical insights for anyone dealing with trauma or supporting anyone who is. This book should be core reading for almost everyone, and would really help us become a healthier society if we all understood how trauma affects everyone.

This was a fantastic read especially for any health therapists. The wide history of experience & research the author was involved with gives a clear picture of how trauma comes to be & the ways in which behaviour we see as inappropriate was usually an effective solution for an inappropriate time.

This was an outstanding book. I work with Australia's first people and the description in this book explains so well the effects of ongoing trauma that plagues their communities. Thank you for the insights.

5.0 out of 5 starsA must for the trauma suffer at the curious of mind

I don’t recall ever reading a book about trauma that is not only engaging, but offers real solutions and the case studies to back it up. Not a read for the faint-hearted, not only because of its monster size, but because of the visceral storytelling that he serves to illustrate his point of view. Highly recommend.

Brilliant. As a Psychologist I read a large number of psychology books. This is one of my new favourites. The text, although dense in parts, is well written and full of information from a true master of the subject. Worth every penny.
