Very easy to instal on Spyder RT Limited. Just had to remove a few panels to feed the cables from the rear camera to the DVR. Great video quality. So far so good!
Top international reviews
- good image quality
- fully waterproof, no need to place dvr unit under the seat or some other inconvenient place
- comes with everything you need to install it, up to the plastic ties & double-sided sticky tape
- good english manual
- g-sensor is too sensitive in 201807xx firmware version, be sure to update to 201808xx for fix
I contacted BlueSkySea about the issue, provided pictures and measurements explaining the situation and they confirmed, saying this will likely be rectified at some point in future productions. I did not ask for compensation since I was able to install anyway. You can still use all the GoPro attachments to mount the recorder itself, they even include a handlebar mount.
The cameras look rugged enough, with a metal housing. The waterproofing seems to be well designed but I didn't have the occasion to use it in the rain yet.
The recorder unit seems to be well built and waterproof, as long as you don't forget to replace the big rubber cover for the memory card/reset/battery access. Be careful not to lose it either.
The memory card is a bit deep in the unit so, once you push-click it out, it's a bit hard to remove it if you don't have fingernails.
The remote control/mic didn't appear to be waterproof but BlueSkySea confirmed within less than 24h that it was waterproof.
The display on the recorder isn't really high resolution and have a very small viewing angle. It's difficult to watch videos daytime or anytime where lightning isn't optimal. That's not significant to lower the rating in my opinion since, after all, that's still an acceptable display for this price range.
The status LED on both the recorder and remote are really bright, blinding bright... Pieces of electrical tape masking 95% of the LEDs solved the problem.
On the road, the image from both cameras are really good daytime. At night, it's not the best but it can manage on well-lit streets. The back camera appears to give better results at night than the front but it's because, since there's no headlights in the back, it's easier for the camera to adjust correctly. In the front, the camera seems to adjust on the headlight path so the sides are too dark. That's an issue higher quality cameras with higher dynamic range don't have, but they are more expensive.
Some mention the shock sensor being too sensitive but I didn't experience this with the 20190313 firmware at the default setting.
Overall, I don't regret this purchase and would recommend this camera and seller in a hearth beat. There is better available probably but for the price, this DV688 is unbeatable. I'll see with time if the reliability will be an issue but I don't expect problems if all stay the way it is.
Recording at night, the footage is practically unusable. Way too dark. You can bump up the brightness but then the video is unusable during the day.
I would like for the dashcam to remember the last setting on boot up. I always have to select the rear camera.
Just to let everyone else know, you can't daisy chain the extension cables.
Overall, I'm somewhat happy with the dashcam.
I have also noticed there is some gaps in my footage, where the camera did not begin recording automatically upon startup, even though the blue light was flashing. I bought this camera hoping to capture my motorcycle trip I just finished, and it has been nothing but faulty.
I've ridden in all conditions from hot to cold including heavy rain and the cameras were able to pick up footage good enough to discern what the traffic in front and behind me are doing.
I was involved in a motorcycle accident and thankfully the footage was able to record what had happened. The cameras were functioning all the way up to the crash of my bike and if it wasn't such a violent event I'm sure they would have survived as well.
That being said, I will never ride without a set of these cameras on my motorcycles in the future. If you ride in city traffic, do yourself a favor and protect yourself with some sort of dash cam.
I'm happy to have this product for the peace of mind it provides due to potential legal implications. Evidence is invaluable. All motorcycle riders should have a dash cam to protect themselves from the crazies out there.
This unit is working well, I had it professionally installed and the quality of the video is good. The only downside is that I own a Mac and the recorded micro sd card does not play on Mac. I have tried everything so I ended up buying a cheap Chromebook to play the files, otherwise it's a great system. No problems yet!
The front camera moves due to wind pressure and / or riding over sharp bumps on the road. This issue would be eliminated if the bracket holding the camera had multiple "teeth". I compensated by using plastic glue to hold the camera angle in place.
If there's one constructive comment I'd offer, don't rely on the 3M tape to work as you'd hope...go get some gorilla tape. Works 100% better imo.
