The power bank I intended to use at first, a Xiaomi Mi 20000Mah power bank, would switch itself off as the mixer does not draw enough power to keep it on. So I used a couple of old cheap power banks I had sitting around and they worked well as they don't have the auto-switch off feature. There was a lot of white noise when I turned up the volume and I thought it was because of the device itself, hence my previous review.
I figure out a way to override the auto-power off function of the MI power and voila! the noise disappeared!
So I am so changing this to 5 stars.
The best feature is that you can pan the two stereo inputs. This is the reason why I bought this in the first place as I can pan the guitar to either channel and make it cut through the mix for quick recordings. Although the knob is not very sensitive, it is enough for quick recordings.
I can now recommend this product but use a proper power bank. The one I use now is made with polymer batteries? maybe that is the reason...
My setup is a MacBook Pro, Novation UltraNova and a Zoom R8 HD recorder which is all plugged into this Hart desk. I use a single power hub to connect this all up (with USB power for the Hart and the Zoom) and I can’t detect any hum or hiss at all. The gain controls are good and loud and I haven’t needed to add much gain to get a high signal level. The faders don’t have a lot of throw but they are easily adjusted and feel smooth.
On the negative side, it’s made of plastic and as I said above, it uses 3.5mm connectors but at this price range there is no reason at all to complain and I don’t feel I can mark it down over something that I knew about it before I ordered it.
In summary, use high quality cables and I don’t think that this little mixing desk will let you down.
I can now play along to MP3 or the score and get some practice in
Output direct to headphones or the music player in the caravan.
Very small and clips onto belt - very neat.
Not sure how long 2 AAA batteries will last but also has micro USB power input if I run out.
Pretty sure this would work on stage although all the jacks are smaller 3.5 mm not 1/4" so adaptors would be needed.
Among the other reviews, some said that this device had a noisy output when powered through its micro-USB jack but reasonably quiet when powered by batteries, while others said the opposite. I'm in the first camp, although the USB hub I'm using is not itself connected to a computer (i.e. I use it only to power and charge devices). Maybe that makes a difference.
The blue LED power indicator is much too bright. I will be covering it up.
Other than that, I'm very happy with it so far. It is tiny and cute.
I suspect that I should somehow protect it from dust, especially because of the sliders.
On the 6th morning, it started making a lot of noise while I was listening to music. I thought it might help to shut it down and restart it, but the noise was still there. Same thing after putting in batteries and disconnecting the USB cord but only for a minute or so and then it just died. What a shame! It had been working perfectly and was ideal for my needs.
I'm also extremely unhappy with Amazon's allowance of $3.99 for shipping. Canada Post charged me $19.85 for this 373g parcel. That's their lowest price. Faster service would have cost $33.39 or $54.20. UPS would have cost at least $42.
Considering how electronically simple this device is, how much I paid for it, and how much more advanced of a product can be had for only $20 or so more (such as an entry-level Behringer mixing board - which includes its own power supply!), this product should be $20 or so cheaper, or at least $10 cheaper if they include a high quality 5 volt power supply. It's really not that much to ask.
I could make my own "mixer" of similar capability for around $20 worth off-the-shelf parts and I'm a private citizen, not a factory that orders components by the thousand.
Sicher keine Hifi Anwendung.
