after careful review of other reviews. I sized up and I’m very satisfied w the fit. For a jacket i will always get it a size bigger then the clothes size i buy for my daughter just so she has growing room and it’s a comfortable for over her clothing. 7/8 shirts or 10 in pants, In dresses i buy her a size 8/ in this trench coat i ordered a size 12! It’s a good fit in length (right at her knee) & also on the sleeves. It’s a smidge wide bit nothing expected since it’s not a perfect fit. My daughter 6.5 years old, 52” tall & in 1st grade. She’s vwey y’all for her age
This is a great, somewhat inexpensive girls dress coat that is well made. I debated on the sizing when ordering because some reviews said “fit expected” and others said “fit small.” After a lot of internal debate I decided to order up in size thinking I’d rather her get more wear out of it than less -she could always grow into it. My daughter is 7 years old and of average size -not chubby in any way, but not rail thin either. She typically wears size 7-8 clothing. I ordered the 10-12 size and although it’s big on her, she’s not swimming in it. Around the waist it is large and it’s a little large in the shoulders but not dropping off them. It’s a long coat. Hits about mid calf. The material is like a thick, smooth flannel. Not like a sheet, but has the feel of flannel (if that makes any sense.) It isn’t lined but for me I’m ok with that. It’s a church coat for us and nothing more. It’s a nice rich red -classic red, which is what I was looking for. It has cute slash style pockets at the side which makes the coat “skirt” flare in a full way. If I wanted a coat that fit her more true in sizing I would’ve ordered down a size, but for the price I’d rather get a couple years wear out of it. I’ll try and include pictures. UPDATE: As I was ironing the coat for her first wear I found a dot of black ink on one of the sleeves (that I didn’t notice at first look.) The dot of ink is the size and shape as if a medium sharpie touched it straight on. The back shoulder area also had a fabric flaw hole. Since I’d hoped the coat could last my daughter a couple years, I contacted the company about both issues -with no response. Both “flaws” are small enough I can live with it, but of course I’d rather spend my money on an “un-flawed” product. I reduced my 4 star rating to a 3 due to the flaws and lack of response from the company.
I actually ordered 2 for my boyfriends daughters. They wear 5t and 6t. I ordered the size six for the youngest (5t) who is average height for a 4 year old, shes got a very solid thick build. It fit like a glove -truly amazing. I ordered a an 8 for the 5 year old (6t) she is quite tall for a 5 year old and very skinny. So it was a bit big, nothing few stitches couldn't handle and it'll for her as she gets older. Now it was a thin jacket but the material kept them warm for a November outside wedding in Washington (really effing cold) so I don't know it must be magic I'm glad I ordered it. I would suggest sizing up though Pictured is the size six on my 5 year old
Should have read the reviews about size running small. I will return for a size larger. The style of the coat is very cute on my 10yr old. She is petite and extremely thin. She can wear an 8 in most dresses or 10 with another year of growing room. I usually go up a size in coats for wearing with sweaters and growing, but ordered a 10 in this coat. I wasn't concerned about growing room in a dress coat that was under $40. I figured this tailored style may look better if it wasn't too large. That was a mistake. The sleeves are too short, its snug, and she would not be able to comfortably wear any sweater under the 10. I only gave 4 stars for the size running small. As for the quality, it's just fine. It is unlined, and the quality is what you would expect for the price. It is not as nice as the high end coats you would find in a children's boutique for much higher prices but something like you would find at Old Navy, and I'm fine with that. This is a great little casual warm layer for colder South Carolina weather, and the style looks so pretty, feminine, and traditional she will be using it as a dress coat this year too. Definitely worth spending a little more to return for a larger size.
This coat is absolutely darling. It looks fantastic on my grand daughter who just turned 4. I bought a size 6 and kept my fingers crossed and it fits perfectly. I love the fact that it has pockets, (so stylish!). This coat will fit her for this winter only. I fully intend to buy her another one next year.
it's absolutely stunning on my eight-year-old. she looks so chic. i fear the fabric is no sturdier than a locally-purchased fleece jacket, but this coat has style and allows her enough mobility. i can't wait to see what she thinks after she comes home from school with it
I looked at the reviews and answered questions about the size. Most said that they picked a coat at the size or just the next size bigger, so that's what I did. My tall, slim 8 year old is just getting into the 10/12 size at most department stores, so I decided to go with a 12. Hoping that since this is a NICE winter coat that she probably won't wear it often, and I would love to get 2-3 years out of the coat. I'm glad I went with what I thought might be too big. The size 12 is just BARELY too big, but it looks charming on her! I'm sure she can wear it for another year even with a decent growth spurt.
It is just as pictured and everything you'd think a cute wool coat should be. She loves it and got many compliments at her Christmas concert. I would buy this again for my other daughter or in other sizes and colors. We got black.
Purchase this little coat for my oldest granddaughter. I am now passing it on to the next granddaughter as it has been very durable and well kept good quality material. I am back to purchase another coat for the first granddaughter as she loved this coat. Also bought a 1930s style hat in the same read to go along with the coat as well as a black one with black gloves. My girls love it!
