''Outpaces its immediate predecessor, The Dead Yard . . . with [McKinty's] trademark dark lyricism, one great red herring, and a masterful plot twist that brings Forsythe's character full circle in a lightning flash.'' --Booklist (starred review)
''As always, (narrator) Gerard Doyle provides a lively, often unexpectedly comic performance. No one else could possibly interpret McKinty's continually exciting and surprising fiction as well. Highly recommended.'' --Library Journal (starred review)
''(Narrator)Doyle brings a clean, well-articulated Irish lilt to his reading that works especially well with the book's multiple characters, each of whom he renders with distinct individual voices . . .Dole's skillful narration draws the listener deep into this dark side of the emerald isle.'' --Publishers Weekly (audio review)
''A near-perfect marriage of fiction and performance, The Bloomsday Dead is a must-listen . . . Forsythe is portrayed by (narrator)Doyle in an intimate virtuoso performance that intensifies the taut, gritty writing. Every nuance of the protagonist's soul lives in the read . . . There is never a lack of distinct personality in this soaring, tragic story.'' --AudioFile

I read the Duffy series straight through without stopping, and now I have read the Dead series in the same way. His picture of New York and a Mexican prison are totally convincing and this 3rd one in the series, set mainly in Belfast, is a masterpiece, with just sufficient clues left around to make one start to piece it out.
For anyone who likes crime/thrillers these books are a must and Adrian MacKinty is a seriously good writer - possibly great? It is the writing that really pulls, although the stories are ingenious as well. All this applies to the other books in the series as well.
