Product Description

BLOODY MAMA BLUES captures the war behind the war in Vietnam. Corruption, black market dealings, prostitution, drugs, and easy money proved seductive to countless American soldiers. Lieutenant Mike Hardy expects to serve an honorable tour of duty as an infantry officer. Instead, he is thrown into a cauldron of evil. BLOODY MAMA BLUES explores the underside of the Vietnam experience, and the irreparable damage suffered by a generation of young men and women.

Being a Viet Nam Era Vet myself, Neil's story resonated with me personally. But it wasn't the only reason I liked this book. It is well written and it really put me there in the scene and plot he developed. While I defended my country by typing up Morning Reports being the Radar O'Reilly type as a company clerk, Neil told another tale of a support group of soldiers who brought food and the like to be used in that war. That war was hell no matter where one found oneself, whether on a jungle trail with your carbine or behind Bloody Mama's machine gun delivering supplies. It's worth reading as a slice of our past as well as for the adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Facinating 14 February 2014

Mr. Howard tells a side of the war few have heard. He writes with clarity and brings his story to life. Young men faced with moral dilemmas no Army training could prepare them for. It was boys who went to war and it was men who returned.
