It seemed like a simple job. Ex-cop Frank Harper is back in Cooper's Mill to spend time with his daughter and grandson, but a bone-chilling winter has settled over the small Ohio town. When a local woman asks him to make a simple delivery, it seems easy enough-until Frank uncovers a possible murder. Now he's searching for a local couple gone missing. But do the snow and ice conceal a deadly crime, one that may cost Frank everything he holds dear?

This second book in the Frank Harper series was like revisiting old friends. The writing is clear with enough description to give the reader of feeling of belonging without veering off from the story. The story line is fast paced and a page turner. Excellent work!
Not as good as the first.

Personally, I did not like this book as well as the first one in this series. It wasn't the plot line that was lacking, but rather how it was written. It just didn't seem to be as well thoughtout as the previous book, and it seemed like there was to much filler simply to add quantity rather than quality to the book. I found it very tiresome to reread the elements of the murder, and the vague Katrina incident, over and over again, and found myself skimming through pages trying to the find the next connection to the plotline. I also found the mention of race differences completely irrelevant to the story except to show that he included various races in his book??? Mentioning race had nothing to do with the plot. There were a few editing errors, but wasn't a big deal, unless that sort of thing that bothers you. All in all, I could only give it three stars. Good idea, but to me, poorly written. And it was enough to make me hesitant to continue on with the series. But that's just my opinion.......
Frank Harper just gets better...

I enjoyed the first book so much that I read the second book, Black Ice. It was even better than the first. I'm looking forward to reading the third in this series. Writers can never go wrong with a flawed character. It worked with Hamlet. It works with Frank Harper.

I loved both the books in this series and cannot wait until the third is out (I have had it pre-ordered since the day it was possible to do so). I highly recommend this series to those who like a really good story, a mystery, a character you won't forget! Frank Harper is a multi-faceted character, someone with depth and character (and enough flaws to keep him interesting). The books are well written and you will be waiting for the next one as you finish each.

Some books you skim through to get to the end, some you hang on every word and take your time because you don't want them to come to an end. Black Ice is definitely one of letter books. Superbly written with a finely crafted plot, sharp dialogue and vivid characters it is steeped in atmosphere and intrigue. Simply superb, so looking forward to the next release in the series.
