Product Description

From USA TODAY bestselling author, another adventure with Quentin Black and Miri Fox - a book in the Quentin Black World. Paranormal Mystery. Urban Fantasy.

"He'd be fresh meat here. And he didn't have his sight..."

Black takes a new consulting gig with the LAPD, helping them find a contract killer who left a dead body behind the Los Angeles Theater. Despite Miri's lingering fears after what happened to him during the last murder case he worked, he assures her it's routine, that he won't be doing fieldwork, that nothing could possibly go wrong.

Then, during his first night on the job at the Port of Los Angeles, all hell breaks loose and all bets are off.

Black wakes up in a nightmare he couldn't have foreseen, with no way out and no idea how he got there. Robbed of his psychic sight, he can't even call to Miriam for help, or use his abilities to figure out where he is, who took him, or what they want from him.

On the outside, Miri is frantic, working with the police and Black's team to find him. She has even less information than Black... until a confession from her Uncle Charles brings her face to face with a much older enemy, the same enemy that may have killed her entire family.

BLACK AND BLUE is book one in QUENTIN BLACK: SHADOW WARS, the second paranormal mystery series starring brilliant but dangerous psychic detective, Quentin Black, and his partner, forensic psychologist Miri Fox.

Standalone novel. No cliffhanger.

*Warning: this book contains graphic language, rape, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young readers.*

Having been an avid reader of the Quentin Black series I couldn't wait to read Black and Blue, book number 5......and I was not disappointed. I was glued to the pages from the beginning and just know it will be a re-read. Quentin and Miri are still not completely sure of each other's commitment in their special relationship and before they can sit down in the five star LA hotel Black has driven them to in order to spend quality time, he checks out a consulting job at the Port of LA and finds himself in danger - deadly danger. He is powerless to use his special skills and Miri is left to try and find him using everything she can, including her mysterious and dangerous uncle. This book goes way off on a tangent introducing another group of violent, non-earthly combatants - even scarier and more coldly emotionless than the seers. If you have enjoyed reading this series so far, don't miss Black and Blue. It had me enthralled from the beginning and it was one of those books that you regret finishing too soon......now it will be the long wait until book 6 to get my fix.

3.0 out of 5 stars like the writing but.... 2 September 2016

I really like the writing style and have read all of the series so far, but this is the 3rd time in this series that one of the main characters gets raped, and I have put the book down at that point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not read this book right before bedtime. 12 April 2017

Note: this is NOT a summary of the book but more a reaction to the story). Love this series, but was this book ever brutal with Black being kidnapped and tormented and tortured in a Federal prison (overall, pretty gruesome). JC's writing is so intense my mind and emotions were twisting with every plot twist. The suspense ratcheted up right to the end. And that Miri -- goes directly for the throat of the kidnapper -- yes! Very tough for me to read and had to remind myself several times the H/h have to survive for the series. Again, simply excellent writing in every area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing series... 8 November 2016

This series gets more brutal and suspenseful with each book! Definitely 5-star material. I can see this series going for at least 30 more books! Other species, other world...so much reading material...wow I can't wait. My only criticism is I would like to see this couple share more down time and allow us to get to know them and their culture. I have to say, the action can be a bit exhausting and takes away from the love and romance factor. That I have to say is not to my liking. Other than that, this is an excellent series!

3.0 out of 5 stars Still waiting 22 September 2016

I got hooked on the story of Black and Miri. Keep coming back waiting for the passion to begin. For some happy couple time. Still waiting, these two got more one on one face time with their rapist then with each other. Not sure I'll buy the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black and Blue (5 of series) 10 September 2016
By Tina - Published on Amazon.com

Possibly my favorite story line to date, although I also found it more violent and heartbreaking. I'll admit, I'm tired of the lack of communication between Black and Miri, one is ready to talk and the other isn't-- this back and forth has been stretched out as long as I can handle; hopefully book 6 will find them actually talking in full sentences (instead of cutting each other off, or having snit fits). This is a 5 based mostly on the excellent plotting and execution of the story. Great action sequences and plenty of reveals- I'm anxious for the next book.
