Product Description

The first book in the best-selling Big Bad Bite Series!

What would it be like to live in a world where you were considered abnormal even to those who were above the norm?

Jenna O'Conner is not human, nor is she considered the norm for the supernatural Other community. It's important she hide her true nature from both humans and Others.

Right after moving to a new city, Jenna runs into trouble in the form of a deadly, mouthwatering man named Adam McPhee. He's an alpha werewolf determined to do two things: figure out exactly what Jenna is and have her all to himself.

As if that weren't enough for Jenna to deal with, a group of extremist Shifters who consider humans to be cattle and who think that factions of Others should stay within their own species--never to intermingle--come to town. Jenna has to find a way to shut them down, but in the process of trying to do that, she discovers things about herself that even she had never thought were possible.
Who said the wolf was what you had to worry about?
Welcome to the real world--the Other world.

Contains mature themes.

"If you like funny paranormal romance with crazy but endearing characters, Big Bad Bite will be for you."

Although I have read many shifter books, this one appealed to me as I was reading it and I did not want to stop until I finished it. A real bad ass half shifter-half demon and an unusual spiky red-haired alpha shifter meet and sparks fly. Recommended read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 15 May 2017

This was a well written story - and by that, I mean that the dialogue was actually descent. It wasn't choppy and the characters had there own voice. The female lead is a SWAT team member and a werewolf/demon. I didn't like that she was almost too perfect in the story and I was getting ready to delete it when suddenly the supporting characters started to be just as tough or tougher than the female lead which actually made me like her more. The character suddenly had some depth and could be defeated so she wasn't so perfect and without faults. The male character was a bit typical of what romance writers have been writing lately - alpha male with a heart of gold who isn't just out for himself but also his pack.
The plot was a bit thin and you will have to read the next book to find what its all about but the book can be read as a stand alone. Truthfully I found some of the secondary characters more interesting than the main characters but of course they will be in separate books. I will probably not buy any more by this author simply because she is drawing out the plot so much - I'd hate to read more and then find out that the plot is run of the mill boring. It seems like another "we must protect the Other community from the humans finding out about us." And of course you have another pack that's trying to subjugate humanity. Its been done pretty much in almost every book about shifters.
Its not a bad book just not as original as it could be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an 'OK' read for me 19 May 2013
By Haley from YA-AHOLIC - Published on

Big bad bite was an ok read, I would say it's almost a 2.5 rating in my book. There was alot of things I liked, and alot of things I really didn't like..

Let's start with the things I liked, I LOVED Adam, and the whole 'Alpha' thing he had going on with Jenna. He comes off crazy and possessive alot of the time...but at the same time it's kinda sexy since he is suppose to be that way. I liked the variety of paranormal beings in the novel, Demons, Vampires, Shifters that turn into either a wolf, bear, or Tiger. Overall though Adam was my favorite part of Big Bad Bite.

Now what I didn't like, was Jenna. Jenna is one bad ass, snarky lady. I love snarky characters, and I LOVE bad ass chicks. But Jenna annoyed me, and she annoyed me quite often. Her insults were repetitive, and felt forced as if the author would take any chance she got to have Jenna insult a male character. Also while I did love Adam and Jenna's relationship, I wish there would have been more times of them together and them not having sex, I'm not saying there was too much sex, just not enough non-sex time between them.

Besides not liking Jenna that much, I also had some trouble with the writing. I felt like a good portion of the book was explaining things to me, and while I am glad to understand how things work and know a bunch about the characters past (etc), I felt Big Bad Bite OVER explained, which really bored me. I wish there would have been more dialogue between the characters compared to all the explaining. But that is just my personal preference of writing, I know alot of other people love when books are extremely detailed. Also there was quite a few errors I noticed while reading, which doesn't bother me one bit, but I know it does for other people, so now you're warned.

Was this book bad? No not at all. I enjoyed Big Bad Bite. It just had some rough edges. I think if you're someone that enjoys urban fantasy, some very steamy sex scenes, and snarky characters, then this may be something you would enjoy.

Side note: I am currently not sure if I will read the sequel once it is released.

2.0 out of 5 stars Death by description... 18 May 2017

I had a hard time finishing this book mostly because I was bored. The author detailed and described EVERYTHING repeatedly and made the pages seem longer than they were. Pretty sure the editor could have shaved AT LEAST 7,000 words out and the book would have been better for it. I found myself barely skimming 3 and 4 pages at a time just to get thru it. Even then I had to force myself not to give up.

Adam (swoon) and all the secondary characters were great, but I was annoyed with Jenna. I understand wanting to make your female lead strong and capable, but she came off as more of a b**** than an independent, self assured woman. And she was really wishy-washy when it came to Adam. That poor shifter deserved better.

I enjoyed the dialogue of the secondary characters and would've liked to read more about them in their own stories, however I'm afraid to be beaten to death by the never ending descriptions so I think I'm gonna pass on that.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the first in Jessie Lane's Big Bad Bite series 20 April 2017

This is the first in Jessie Lane's Big Bad Bite series, and this was a fabulous start. Jenna is just starting out in Wilmington, new job on the S.W.A.T. team, making new friends, but she has to be careful. Her whole life was spent hiding who she was, having been told that her life was in danger if the wrong people found out. So when her secret is sniffed out pretty much her first night on the job, she freaks a bit. Adam has sniffed out that Jenna is different, once he figures out what she is, he wants her for himself, the wolf in him wants her, she is his mate. Now comes the problem with getting Jenna to drop her walls, and let Adam in. But as Jenna learns more, and more about that half of herself, the more she wants to run, will she let Adam in? Or will Adam be forced to live without his mate?

Ok so first off, there is so much more to this book than mates finding each other and Jenna freaking out, that's just the topping. We get introduced to a cast of characters that have you giggling at their antics and I am really hoping that they all get stories of their own. The sexy times are off the charts steamy, some drama, some violence and some LOLing. This is a 5 star read for me.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read! 26 May 2017

Jenna O'Connor was an all around kick a** female SWAT member with extra abilities. She has a sharp wit and tough girl facade with a bit of girlie peeking out to occasionally soften the edges. Adam McPhee was the strong, silent wolf shifter type a guy. When he spoke it was for a reason; otherwise he gaze spoke volumes by itself.

The story opened with bang and coasted along for a good ride during the first half! I loved the snark and humor between Jenna and her SWAT teammate Kent and I got a kick out of the undercurrents between Jenna and Adam. The introduction of tiger shifter twins, Alec and Gage and their sex pot grandma was hysterical, and Jenna's mama.. talk about making a dramatic entrance! The best scene, however was when Jenna sees Adam injured. Talk about losing your temper...I'll be looking at BMW's in a new light!

Overall, the story was decently solid. The story seemed to switch course in the middle and lag, but picked up speed towards the end as it found its way back on track. I loved the chemistry and romance between Adam and Jenna and I'm looking forward to seeing Gage brought down by the Amazon. The humor was sarcastic and sharp. Sometimes it felt a forced, but not enough to drive me bonkers. I had questions when I finished reading, but those should be answered in the next book and I'm eager to get my grabby hands on a copy when I have a chance!
