For a long while now, I've stuck with the *Beyond* series because of the series-long arc, the conflict between the Sectors and the City of Eden. The individual relationships at the core of each book haven't interested me much in some time, as they seem to be variations on the same theme. (I'd have been more intrigued if the relationships had featured different kinds of kinks, but they've all been more or less varying degrees of BDSM).
This book was also most memorable for the final battles of the Revolution that has been building since the series began, but I liked Nessa and Ryder's relationship more than I've enjoyed those featured in the last several books and novellas. Perhaps because of the upheaval of the Revolution, Nessa and Ryder's relationship is more emotional and romantic than others in the *Beyond* universe. They've also dialed back the kink, which I was glad about, not because there's anything wrong with BDSM, but because in a culture that values diversity as much as the people of Sector Four, it strains credulity that *everyone* would be turned on by the same things.
