Product Description

Ever wondered what draws people deep into extreme religions and cults?
Come on Megan White’s journey as she becomes immersed in an extreme fundamentalist church. Learn how her desire to find meaning and purpose in her life catches her in a trap that snaps shut around her and holds her paralysed. Though her life changing decision helps her to leave the drug scene, is she really free?
Megan soon learns a secret, a secret that she feels compelled to conceal despite the conflict it brings. How can she reconcile this secret to the high ideals of the church teachings which hold her spellbound?
Megan’s journey is a roller coaster ride as she desperately tries to free herself from the entrapment of the church's power, all the while wrestling with her own weaknesses and temptations.
We all need the courage to face the truth even when everything within us does not want to believe it. This story highlights the dangerous capacity we all have to deny truth, even when it is staring us in the face.
Take a peek inside.

This was a great read and I couldn't put it down once I was caught up in the world of the central character. Thought provoking and a great reminder of places and events in SE Qld around the time of my youth.

Thoroughly captivating. What an emotional rollercoaster when one seeks meaning through other humans rather than the higher power.

A wonderful journey of self discovery. Very candid at times and provides a very honest insight into a sometimes secretive world. I'm sure many will relate to different aspects of the life of Megan and perhaps this book will help others take a step toward their own freedom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vile 14 August 2016

I haven’t finished this book. I just barely started it. It was very vile. I understood going in that there would be some serious sins dealt with, but I didn’t expect to be so vile in explaining her past. That was in the first few paragraphs. Once again, it was vile.
4.0 out of 5 stars Life's Story, Love and Glory 10 June 2014

Beyond Belief is a coming of age story set around the adventure of leaving home and the struggle to make sense of life. Megan finds mentors, role models, companionship and ready answers to life's deeper questions in a charismatic Christian movement that is sweeping Australia. A keen learner and adherent, she rises to positions of responsibility, but not without burying a disturbing truth that she has accidentally uncovered that goes to the heart of the integrity of the movement's leadership. The pressure of her own passions against the confinements of her responsibilities eventually breaks through the cognitive dissonance and enables her to recognize the manipulation and human frailty that she must simultaneously consent to and deny in order to continue with the movement.
Written with maturity and candor, this story rises above its setting. Whether you missed, dabbled in or plunged into this interesting 70s, 80s Christian charismatic phenomenon, you'll find in addition to insights into this movement, a satisfying chunk of life's story served up in these pages.
5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring tale of the path to true identity 3 July 2016

A riveting read that provoked much reflection about what it is to overcome an existential dilemma. Megan's story reminds us that we are our beliefs. When we choose to change them we are choosing to change ourselves. This is a brave and honest chronicle of what it is like when our beliefs are rocked to the core and the main casualty is the identity we have chosen for ourselves. Megan's struggle between burying or sharing an explosive secret is an inspiring reminder that the only right choice is the one that enables us to grow beyond beliefs that we can no longer hold with conviction
5.0 out of 5 stars An engaging and thought provoking read 4 May 2016

This book is a highly engaging exploration of the Pentecostal Christian movement, through the eyes of a young woman whose journey of self-discovery collides with an idealist organisation. I enjoyed reading Megan's journey and the important questions the narrative raises about why we believe the things we do and how individuals impact these beliefs, and ultimately how we can muster up the courage to see the world through our very own unique lens.
