Book Five in the bestselling, award-winning BEYOND series...

She's fought like hell to leave the past behind.

Trix changed her name and her life when she got clean four years ago. Now, she has a new family and a job she loves--tending bar and dancing at the Broken Circle. As an O'Kane, she's happy, untouchable. Until a nightmare from her old life tears her away from her home and drags her back to Hell--also known as Sector Five.

He's still living--and dying--in it.

Losing Trix was the kick in the head Finn needed to get sober, but working as an enforcer for a man he hates is slowly crushing his soul. The only thing that keeps him going is his determination to destroy Sector Five from the inside. Then Trix comes back into his life--alive, in danger--and nothing else matters.

Getting her home could be a suicide mission. The only thing deadlier is the old spark that flares to life between them. Soon, Finn and Trix are battling the one addiction neither of them ever managed to kick--each other. And it could cost them everything.

I have to agree with other reviewers there is a different feel to this book, cant put my finger on it, but that said, I enjoyed the story. In a dystopian society where all the normal social values have collapsed and every day is a fight for survival, your choices for remaining decent and humane would be seriously limited, so finding that Trix is still alive gives Finn the motivation to overcome the soul destroying situation he is in and ultimately find redemption.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strong and Satisfying Second Chance Romance (but beware of triggers) 14 August 2014
By Clio Reads - Published on

I'm a little bit torn as to how to rate this fifth full-length novel in Kit Rocha's Beyond series, honestly. As I've said before, I love this series beyond all reason, especially since this sort of thing (a polyamorous, liquor-smuggling, cage-fighting, pole-dancing motorcycle gang living in a violent, post-apocalyptic dystopia) is not usually my cuppa. Beyond Addiction is a strong entry in an already strong series, and parts of it I loved, but I do have a few complaints.

But let's focus on the good stuff, first, hmmm?

Beyond Addiction is a second-chance romance between Finn and Trix. Both were originally from Sector 5 -- (This plot summary will assume some general familiarity with the Beyond universe. If you're not familiar, start with the first book, Beyond Shame, which just happens to be free at most e-book retailers right now.) -- whose main industry is making drugs for medical use in the city of Eden and more recreational (and addictive) use in the Sectors. As an enforcer for sector leader Mac Fleming, Finn spent a lot of years doing other people's dirty work.

Years ago, Trix was a junkie dependent upon Finn for her next fix, and though they had a real emotional connection and plenty of sexual chemistry, neither could be sure what she needed from him most: his love or his ready access to dope. Desperate to get clean, Trix double-crossed Mac (and by extension, Finn) and escaped to Sector 4, where she got healthy and found a home and family with the O'Kanes.

At the start of Beyond Addiction, Mac Fleming's henchmen have kidnapped Trix, and Finn burns his bridges with Sector 5 in order to get her safely back to the people she loves, though he doesn't believe, with their history, that he'll ever be worthy to be counted as one of those people.

The Good Stuff:

The real "second chance" in this story is not Finn's relationship with Trix, but his relationship with the rest of the O'Kane clan. As a long-time enforcer for a rival sector leader, Finn has a lot to answer for with the O'Kanes, including his direct role in getting Trix and Jade (and probably others) hooked on drugs. Trix is more than willing to forgive his sins, but the other O'Kanes aren't as easily won over. Watching Finn own his past, make amends, and ultimately earn himself a place in the tight-knit O'Kane family was enormously satisfying. As I posted in a status update yesterday, previous Beyond books have talked about the sisterhood among the O'Kane women, but this book gave a new and very welcome insight into the brotherhood of O'Kane men.

This book is the fifth in a planned seven book series (not including the novellas that come out between novel releases), and we're far enough along now that the reader (me) has a better understanding of the complicated labyrinth of Sector politics and loyalties, and a better sense of the ultimate confrontation that the whole series is building toward. As a reader, it's as if I've been working for a long time on a huge, complicated jigsaw puzzle, and I've made enough progress now that the big picture is starting to come together... and there's a huge sense of satisfaction in that.

My Complaints:

I know a lot of Beyond readers will disagree with me for saying so, since the sex is such a defining part of this series, but I've gotta say that, for me, the smexy parts are losing their charm. I skimmed past most of the sex in this book. It's just too similar to all the sex in all of the previous books, and in my opinion, it detracts from the individual couples' stories. Each book focuses on a couple (and in the case of Beyond Jealousy, a triad), and each relationship has its own unique history and conflict and resolution -- and yet, as different as each couple/relationship is, we're supposed to believe that sexually, everyone in Sector 4 has the exact same kinks? Mmm, not so much. Don't get me wrong: reading about Lex and Dallas sexing up Noelle in Beyond Shame was hot, but now that we've read about them sexing up Rachel, Trix, and God knows who all else, it's starting to feel Beyond *Same*, and that's not cool.

The other thing that really, really bothered me about this book was that it had not one but two child-in-peril subplots. I hate when authors do horrible things to kids just to move a plot along or twist a reader's sympathies, and this book did it twice. Neither incident was integral to the plot, which was good in the sense that, as a mother and thus a reader particularly bothered by child-in-peril stories, I didn't have to linger on the horror -- but then again, since neither incident was integral to the plot, why the hell include those horrors at all?!

In conclusion, Beyond Addiction has a lot to recommend it, and fans of the series won't be disappointed -- but it also has a lot of triggers (violence, rape, child-in-peril) to trip up unwary readers, so buyer beware.
5.0 out of 5 stars Each book is better than the last!!! 27 May 2015

WOW!!!! Every time I think I have read my favorite book in this series I read the next one & I'm proven wrong!!! Each book is better than the last!!!

Will Trix finally get a happily ever after or will she lose everything all over again?

Four years ago Tracy left Sector Five, leaving everyone there thinking she had died. Instead, she had made her way to Sector Four, changed her name, & reinvented herself. Behold Trix. She has learned to be content with her life even with a part of her soul missing. But when she pisses off the wrong person she ends up getting kidnapped & taken back to Five. When Finn walks into Mac's office & sees the woman he thought he had lost sitting there tied up he looses it.

Finn thought he had lost the love of his life so when he walked into Mac's office & saw her tied to a chair he finds he once again has a reason to live. But to do that they both have to escape Sector Five alive. And he has to come to turns with the fact that Tracy no longer exists.

This is a second chance love story with lots of twists & turns. I won't give away any more of the story, you'll just have to read it for yourself. And believe me, if you are a fan of this series you will want to read it. Seeing these two together & growing into their own is fantastic!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars FREAKIN' LOVE FINN & TRIX!!!! 16 August 2014

This book...damn I just don't know where to begin. Well first things first..plain and simple - I LOVED IT!! No big surprise there since yall freakin' rock at what yall do! There were so many heart wrenching moments that I got freakin' misty eyed (which I don't do by the way) and thought my damn heart was gonna stop on me! (Yeah those are the parts that I think yall was trying to kill me on, lol!)

There was just so much everything and anything between Trix and Finn was so damn gritty and raw that you can totally feel it!! This story was a freakin' whirlwind and I felt like yall just took me by my ankles and shook the hell outta me!!

We got to meet Shipp & Alya and his people who live on the outskirts of 6 which was totally cool and I love that they were gearheads!! The O'Kanes sure didn't make it easy on Finn but he sure as hell didn't back down and continued to prove himself time and time again!

OMG and at the party...HOLY SHIZNIT was that freakin' HHAAWWWWTTTTT!!! My jaw dropped and I was like...GOT DAYUM let me get up in that mix!!

Loved that we got to see my favorite trio along with the rest of the gang interact amongst each other too! Ohh and we got more insight on Ryder and who he is and what he has been doing and who he is about to become. YES! Ohh and both Trix & Finn get some badass ink! Freakin' loved every bit of it! Just so many great lines/quotes and I can't wait until the next go round in this freakin' AWESOME series!!!

Outstanding Job Ladies!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to the series!! 11 August 2014
By Tracy ~ Book Loving Pixies - Published on

I've loved the Beyond series since I read book 1, Beyond Shame. The sense of hope, family and belonging, the lives and stories of the characters in the books just engage me so much.
It also helps that the stories are action packed, full of twists and turns, intrigue and let's not forget some super hot, oh so sexy, down & dirty encounters!!!

Beyond Addiction takes a slight turn in pace. Finn & Trix have a history that not a lot of people in S4 are aware of. They have hurt & been hurt by each other and have spent years apart, but their attraction is still there, time nor space have dampened that.

Addiction is a really emotional read. Neither of the main characters had a good life in Sector 5 and there is loss and regret laying heavy on both of them. Through the story, we get to see Trix's place in Sector 4, how she came to her new life and her sense of belonging & family. Finn has been on the outside for so long, never felt like he belonged so he doesn't know how to be a part of something - doesn't feel worthy of a lot of things but for Trix he'll try anything!

I love the world that the KR girls have developed in the Sectors and beyond. In Addiction we get to see more of what happens in S5 as well as out on the fringes and we meet some new and interesting characters (some of these are instantly detestable and a few I'd love to find out more about in future books)

The Sectors leaders make an appearance. As ever there is double dealing, backstabbing and treachery. I still can't stand some of the leader characters and there's one I can't quite decide on - is he good or as bad as the others?? Only time will tell I suppose.

As I said, the pace of this book is slightly different from previous reads but that doesn't mean that the sex and action are diluted in any way. We catch up with all of our favourites and get to see them in action - in more ways than one! Keep your eyes open for one scene in particular that is smokin' HOT!!! One Word - Lex!!!

I was a bag of mixed emotions reading Beyond Addiction - I ran the gamut and even had to grab a tissue a time or two (so be prepared).

Another excellent addition to what is one of my favourite series EVER. The girls write such a fantastic story and gods, they know how to keep us coming back for more!

A definite 5* star read and one not to be missed!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to move to Sector four and be an O'Kane 12 August 2014

I’ve been hooked on the Beyond series since the first book, Beyond Shame, and am extremely grateful to the friend who suggested I give it a chance because every time I read one of these books all I want to do is move to Sector Four and be an O’Kane and Beyond Addiction has reinforced that Sector Four is the place to be.

In Beyond Addiction we get to learn about Trix’s past and the man she left behind. Everything inside Finn died the night Trix left Sector Five and continued to be one of Mac Flemming’s , a man he despised, weapon of choice, hating what Flemming made him do, but doing it because he had nothing left to live for. But when Trix is thrown back into his life things become a lot more interesting.

Trix, like so many of the women in this series, is strong, independent and entirely in control of her own sexuality, but that wasn’t always the case. She went through hell and came out an O’Kane and to find out what that hell has me respecting the hell out of her. And then there’s Finn. Can I say I love Finn? Is that a little too much? The change he goes through is fun to watch, because it’s not only Trix who gets him to see what living can be, but the rest of the O’Kane’s, in their own special way.

All in all Beyond Addiction is a great addition to the series, we keep up with the all the O’Kane’s we’ve come to know and love while being introduced to more characters that help to give more depth to this world.
