Product Description

Tattooist Chris Zelter doesn’t always make the best decisions when it comes to the people he cares about, or the women he gets involved with. Things have changed recently, though. Chris has lost interest in casual flings as he finds himself wrapped up in Sarah Adamson, a waitress at the local strip club he frequents. It takes months of persistent attention before she finally agrees to date him, and he's determined not to mess it up.

Just as things are finally going his way, Chris receives a troubled phone call in the middle of the night from Hayden Stryker, his best friend and business partner. Unexpected revelations and the sudden departure of his girlfriend, Tenley, has nearly sent Hayden over the edge. Add in a speeding ticket and an impounded car, and Hayden is balanced on the precipice of a total meltdown. Worried about his friend, Chris sets out on a rescue road trip, first to get Hayden, and then to bring back Tenley. The two men run into unforeseen roadblocks, proving even the best intentions don’t guarantee results.

Chris and Hayden return to Chicago empty handed, and Chris is left feeling as if he’s let down all the people who matter, especially Sarah. But Chris discovers that sometimes the best way to deal with failure is to find a way to forget about it. And losing himself in Sarah is the perfect way to do just that.

This short story packs massive punches and brings the lives of the supporting characters of Chris and Sarah to the forefront. This is told from Chris’ point of view and continues on where Clipped Wings ends. He’s currently in the eye of the storm following Tenley’s departure, his friend Hayden has gone off in chase but hits a road block when his car is impounded. He has to leave the woman he’s been pursuing to help Hayden out. Seeing his friend completely shattered leaves an impressive mark on Chris and he desperately wants to help them reunite as well as get home to his blossoming relationship with Sarah.
I was laughing out loud at the writing style, Ms Hunting writes dialogue like I speak. The characters are interesting with the right amount of drama and tension. I have really fallen in love with this series. This little entrée will lead nicely into the next novel length book Inked Armour. Just waiting on it to arrive in my mailbox.
I bought this novella with my own money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Total Book Will Cost You $16 26 May 2014

This is 50 pages. I don't consider that even a Novella. More a tease. Ms Hunting can write an awesome book and this is a SAMPLE of a very good book but let's put truth in advertising. Before the days of ebooks, when the Whole book had to be published these ploys wouldn't couldn't happen. To get this entire book you have to pay .99 for another 50 page piece of a book that is at least partly a repeat of this the pay $7.50 each for 2 halves of what should be A Book. So I paid $16 to get a really good book. Just wish I had known that up front. Great story, characters that you will get emotionally involved with. Well written, well edited but Not cheap. Now you know.
5.0 out of 5 stars Between the Cracks is a short story with an eye opening perspective. 14 July 2014

Between the Cracks is a short story with an eye opening perspective.

Ever since I read clipped wings, I haven’t been able to get enough of it. I pretty much vowed to stalk Helena until I got more of these very broken but even more endearing characters. Especially after having Clipped Wings end in a cliffhanger.

This novella picks up right where Clipped Wings left off with a very determined Hayden on his way to get Tenley, and it mainly follows Hayden’s distress from Chris’ point of view.

While Between the Cracks nicely ties the first and second book together, giving us a heart wrenching and sad outlook on Hayden’s state of mind and future. It also clearly depicts Chris’ character.
“As much as Tee might be struggling with her own s***, I was pissed at her for doing this to him.”

It was difficult to get an accurate perception of Chris before. I mainly thought of him as one of the sexy tattooists that co-owned Inked Armor. Playful and man whoreish, and part of the close knit group of friends who also worked at the tattoo shop.

There is without a doubt much more to Chris than what we know. He’s a loyal, caring and supportive friend. He doesn’t hesitate in helping Hayden however he can.
“I’m glad I met you. You’re a really good guy. Take care of Hayden.” ~ Sarah

Even though I’m torn for Hayden and Tenley’s sake, this short is no less enjoyable. It gives us enough of Chris’ personality to like him more and want to know further. And Helena also includes the fun, flirty side of him and Sarah in a prelude to their growing relationship.

4.5 cracked stars

Note: I strongly suggest this series be read in the correct order.
5.0 out of 5 stars A nice tease at more to come 7 June 2014

My immediate reaction was wait it's over already? Nooooo! This glimpse at what a mess Hayden was immediately following Tenley's departure had me feeling all kinds of sympathy for him. I can relate to his OCD organizational mania 100%.

The novella is told from Chris' POV, his buddy and 1 of 2 co-owners with him of their tattoo parlor Inked Armor. We didn't learn much about Chris in Clipped Wings so this was a nice introduction and succeeded in stirring my curiosity about him. What are the building designs on his torso for example? I'm looking forward to Chris' full length novel, Cracks in the Armor.

But up next is Inked Armor, the sure to be engrossing read of Tenley's return and the rebuilding of her relationship with Hayden. They both have a lot of emotional issues to work through due to their traumatic past and personal insecurities.

A quick glimpse into what is sure to be some really tough times coming for Hayden. It gives us a peek into Chris and Sarah, and hints at things to come for them as well. It was nice to finally get a deeper idea of who Chris is, we've only ever seen him through Hayden and Tenley's eyes.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to the Clipped Wings series! 9 May 2014

I'm loving the Clipped Wings series! I was surprised to see the cover reveal for this book earlier this week (gorgeous cover like the others) and it came out at the perfect time. I was just about to start Inked Armor and since this takes place between Clipped Wings and Inked Armor, I decided to sneak it in instead. I was surprised to find out that this is Chris's novella. I don't read book descriptions ahead of time because of possible spoilers in the summary, so I didn't even know that Cracks In the Armor was a Chris/Sarah novella either. Helena Hunting truly creates some of the best flawed but likeable and memorable characters that stay with you. They also tend to steal the scenes every once in a while. Chris was a favorite character of mine since I first read Cupcakes and Ink. I was so excited to read this short story!

Between the Cracks starts off right after Clipped Wings ends. If you haven't read Clipped Wings yet, you should be warned that it does end in a bit of a be continued kind of way. Chris is one of Hayden's best friends and a tattoo artist at Inked Armor. He's a bit reckless and a womanizer, until Tenley's neighbor, Sarah, catches his eye. After weeks of perusing her (which we get to see in Cupcakes and Ink and Clipped Wings), Chris tones it down and shows Sarah how much he really likes her. As opposed to only wanting to get in her pants. I loved seeing Sarah slowly caving to his charms. I think these two are so good together and I'm excited to read their next novella!

While Between the Cracks is told in Chris's POV, it is still heavily focused on Hayden. I'm not complaining because I love Hayden and this was more of a bridge between books. While it's only 50-ish pages, it was memorable and I do think it's important to read before Inked Armor. I really hope that Chris and Sarah end up having their own full-length story. Between the Cracks was a great addition to the Clipped Wings series. I looooooove this cover!
