seven years ago: The two main characters were dating in college until they broke up. She was on a full scholarship studying accounting. He was hanging his hopes on playing pro football. They broke up in their junior year. He went onto to pursue his dream. He had asked her to go with him but she wanted to finish college and wanted him to also finish college. He had tried to reach her a few times right after the breakup but she did not respond. She promptly moved onto the next guy. She married the guy right after college and then divorced five years later. She and her ex drifted apart after having problems conceiving.
present: the H and some of his football friends make the headlines after a night of brawling and spending time in the pokey. His friends come up with a bet while in the pokey. Each person has to find his first love and fall in love. The loser has to explain to the team's manager why they were in the pokey. The H heads out to look for the h. He knows that she was the one that got away. Yet he has never kept tabs on her so he doesn't know if she is single or married or anything about her life. He does pursue her once he finds out that she is single. She makes it difficult for him since he left once before. The two do wind up together.
No likes: There was nothing about this couple that I wanted to root for. The h married a rebound and didn't look back. She read about the H and his ex girlfriends in the headlines. He knew zero about her. How could she have been the one that got away if he never checked in on her? I was not crazy about the h. She was very bitter after they reunited. Her backstory was that her father was also a football player and had left her and her mother when she was a young girl. The H had a lot of inner thoughts about how much he still loved her and wanted to marry her when they were in college. If this was the case, he would have kept tabs on her. The h was stubborn and was not flexible.
I always feel that if there is a second chance between the couple and that they were really in love, they would not have started another life with other people and always asked around about the other person during their time apart.
Not for me.
