This book helped me to transform the sense of "the goal posts constantly moving" that I was experiencing in my career and personal life and instead learn to the journey that I was on by appreciating my successes on the way. Clearly written with straightforward examples this book avoids too much jargon found in other goal setting books.

Highly recommend as it will be one of those reads you devour yourself and then pass on to friends in need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sanity and Satisfaction Indeed 15 October 2015
By Marc Grail - Published on
BETTER THAN DONE provided just the piece that I was missing in my "get it done" world. It seemed that no matter how much I accomplished, there was always more waiting for me to do. I had missed the fact that I was making the assumption that once I was done, THEN I would be satisfied. This book helped turn that premise on its head by showing me that what I was really after was not something that was available from any amount of doing, but rather was found in my choice of how I wanted to BE.
I had assumed that "being happy" would somehow just come as a natural consequence of more doing and that there really wasn't a choice to be had in my state of "being". BETTER THAN DONE not only provided an alternative perspective, but laid out the roadmap to how I might actually choose the state of being I was most interested in and then guided me to manifesting that experience—all while the logistics seemed to be happening in the background.
This book is an easy and enjoyable read and I don't think there's anything quite like it out there. It blends the worlds of psychological / spiritual support with a focused approach to making things happen. Only, what's "happening" now is so much bigger than just my to-do list. Check it out!
5.0 out of 5 stars A New Goal Setting Paradigm Brings Meaning and Quality to Life 4 November 2015
By Lisa - Published on
When I began reading this book, I anticipated the method being presented to be obvious, reworking something old to make it seem new, or perhaps just new-agey. As I got further and further into it, it captured me. The concepts seemed new and fresh. The authors describe nuances that are very important to understanding why the IGS system works, and outline the process in very clear ways - but it's never redundant or boring. I find the use of case studies that track 3 IGS users through from start to finish super interesting and particularly helpful in showing the myriad of ways this system can work for people. The system really honors the individuality of people and avoids black/white/right/wrong rigid rules while still giving enough structure so that you know what to do, why to do it, and how you can vary it to suit you. This new paradigm is focused bringing meaning and quality to our journey towards our goals instead of focusing on just achieving an end result. I found it to be very powerful, clear, well-written and quite compelling. I highly recommend it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and transformative 3 March 2016

Easy to read, concise and clear, this book helps you quickly understand and put into practise ways to get rid of the endless lists of "shoulds." Instead, I am now feeling pumped about my successes and excited about future challenges.

The examples given really helped my understanding especially as I had so much in common with one of them. I could really understand where they were coming from. This is the missing piece of the puzzle in a world that asks women to "lean in" - by telling you how to lean in AND enjoy it!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a motivated person, or for psychotherapists and coaches to use with clients 14 November 2015
By Eastern Dance Enthusiast - Published on
I just received this book from a friend --it is concise with just the right balance of "how to" and case examples to make the material user friendly and immediately applicable. It is a fresh approach to goal setting - but more importantly it guides you through a process of identifying and seeking what is of greatest value. In the healthcare profession myself, I would recommend this would book to psychotherapists and coaches as a process that can be used easily with clients.
5.0 out of 5 stars Intentional Goal Setting for the win! Trade the old To Do list for an empowering TO BE system. 7 February 2016
By Jacquelyn Richey Krieger - Published on
Rothe and Buckley have reframed the "to do" list with an empowering "To Be" system. What you hold important and how you want to feel take precedence as one chooses five areas of life to focus on within a three month time. This Intentional Goal Setting is practical and positive as one is encouraged to celebrate all levels of achievement...small, medium, and large.
