About the Author
Alex Gerlis is the author of the acclaimed Spies series of four Second World War espionage thrillers which are noted for their detailed research and intricate plots and feature two great adversaries: the British spymaster Edgar and his Soviet counterpart Viktor. The television/film rights for The Best of Our Spies have been bought by a major production company.
Born in Lincolnshire, Alex was a BBC journalist for nearly 30 years. He lives in west London with his wife and family and three black cats, a breed which makes cameo appearances in his books. He’s a lifelong supporter of Grimsby Town, which has provided some preparation for the highs and lows of writing novels. When asked if he has worked in the field of espionage he declines to answer in the hope some people may think he has.

Sometimes the author tends to overdo his recapping of former events, making sure we still recall what he has already covered. My memory is not the sharpest, but I found this came across as writing for the sake of filling pages. A precis version would have sufficed.
Other than that, I have enjoyed reading this third part of the series.
It contained almost no fill in 'Fluff' or gratuitous sex and violence, although it contained both, I'll read it again someday

It mixes the spying with romance and just doesn't seem to gel. Considering it takes place during wartime it seems no one has any trouble travelling anywhere even to and from Europe, I didn't really get a wartime feel about it.
I won't bother with another, there are better authors in the genre out there.
I recommend this book.
I know this is an amazon self-published novel, but surely it's not too much trouble to read the manuscript through before publishing? Almost every page contains duplicate words, words in the wrong order, missing words, grammatical and punctuation mistakes.
I almost never give up on a book, no matter how bad, but I came close with this as it is so irritating and continuous.
BUT: it's a good story, generally well told and researched.
