Best Friends (New Species Book 15) Kindle Edition
A single act of bravery sparks a series of events that result in Snow getting to know the waitress he’s been obsessively thinking about. He just wants to keep Mel safe. And convince her he’s the male for her.
Mary is the brunt of jokes because of her extreme fear of animals. Phobias aren’t funny. Is she the only one who understands that? When Mel’s actions link them both to New Species, she’d like to hide from those scary men with fangs. That would make her a crappy best friend, though. She’ll try to be brave…right up until the moment she comes face to face with a lion man named Lash. He’ll make her confront her fears in the most unexpected ways possible.

Firstly, YAY finally some new books in the series, exciting, do I think there were other more known characters that I would loved to have seen get a book first, yes definitely but at this point I'll take what I can get!
Snow - 4 Stars
I certainly enjoyed the first book heaps more then the second one and that's mostly due to the characters themselves, not so much what was happening, I LOVED Snow, he was just adorable and I want him for myself hehehe! He was just such a great all round character that I couldn't help but love him, I loved how he was with Mel and it was great watching the quick journey to the mating stage.
Mel herself was an amazingly strong, capable character that you could easily admire. She got what needed to be done with no hesitation to protect those she loves. I liked everything about her really.
I didn't feel that this one progressed the world building all that much, which was fine but it was still great to be back with the New Species, must say I do hope Jaded gets his book in the not too distant future, loved the snippets of him we got!
Lash - 1 Star
Hmmmm, I find this one hard to review as I like some parts and not so much others.
Firstly lets address their first encounter, it was border line cringe worthy for me and kind of set the tone for the book.......is the choice between sex and being alive unharmed or being mauled/killed really a consensual thing????? (when she wouldn't have chosen to begin with) I struggled a bit with it and it doesn't sit all that comfortably with me.
I don't think I have read a more annoying character then Mary, I get that phobia's are real and very debilitating to that person, which doesn't seem rational to those of us who don't have them BUT still I just couldn't stomach the whining, cowardly behavior all...the...time. But then when she tried to have a back bone, towards the end, it was against her best friend who has always been their for her and accommodating for her fear, didn't like it and made her seem even worse.
Lash, where to start, I guess I had really, really, REALLY high expectations of another Wild Zone Species as Valiant is my all time favourite, no one can beat him! But Lash fell wayyyyyyyyy short for me.
He simply had a really crappy, annoying attitude, again I get what he went through, as did most Species, was horrific and would certainly change how you viewed things, but he came across totally rude and extremely spoiled, not very attractive characteristics in my opinion.
Overall it was good to be back with the New Species and I while the second story was a tad disappointing, I think the first book was a nice way to ease us back into the world after a long break and I really hope that the next book is not too far away and only on one couple so that we get more of a story and not just their mating.
The first book/romance was short and sweet.
The second one I really was not sure about.
The way the second couple first met - was that forced seduction or something else? Basically - he seduced her, but she was too scared to say no, and he pretended not to be able to speak and growled intimidatingly if she spoke at all. He admitted later that it was so that she wouldn’t say no, because then he’d have to stop. I felt very uncomfortable about this. His personality didn’t really improve much later in the book either IMO - he was bossy and rude. She seemed to like it for some reason 🤷♀️

I promised myself I wouldn’t buy another of LD’s books, but I so enjoyed her earlier NS stories that I relented. Sorry, I’m done now. This offering is a rambling load of nothing.
The second story in this sounds a bit better, like it was written by someone else entirely.
I really hoped that we'd see NS moving on & growing up, but all that ever seems to happen is that bigoted human men attack the women they've mated, then they win them back and the bad men end up in prison. The quality of the writing hasn't improved either. Am I the only person driven potty by overuse of the word 'since'?
As for this particular book: there are inconsistencies in the book. In the 2nd story, early on the woman is referring to having a fear of being confined in small spaces. Later she explains to the hero that she 'doesn't have claustrophobia'.
All in all, I regret my purchase of this book. I did read the other negative reviews before buying and sadly I have to agree with them.
It kind of pains me to say this because I loved the NS concept - but after waiting an age for this latest installment I'm disappointed and think it unlikely I'll be buying any further titles by the author.
And this was not a book i would recommend in fact i would go as far as saying i dont think i will read any more of speices series really poor waste of my money
I am hoping that there will be a book for Jaded and especially Brass who has been in the series from the beginning (practically) so I would love him to have his happy ending!! This was a wonderful Christmas read for me. Thank you for the fabulous present.
