I preordered this book awhile ago but I am confused about how the author is publishing this Brocade series. We get a new book like this one but in between we get rereleases with new names.
+++Spoilers+++ Here our h is married off to the H on the whim of the queen because she is her ward. The h has been widowed and because she wears heavy veils for mourning no one knows how beautiful she is. There are loads of rumours about how old and ugly she is and the H believes all of them. He on the other hand is a favourite of the queen and quite a ladies man and obviously very gorgeous. He is pretty awful to the h when they first get married and I really disliked him for a good part of the book. The h continued to hide behind her veils but then appears as a servant to the H. This went on for way too long and created doubts about who the H really loved. The author may have been trying a little too hard to be clever here. I found myself going back and rereading bits and it spoilt the flow for me.
Having said all of this - a slightly disappointing book by this author is still way better than a lot of the drivel out there
