About the Author

Washington-based artist Kimberly Adams creates vibrant landscapes using her fingertips. Kimberly studied art while growing up in New Mexico and says her paintings represent her love for nature as well as her adventurous heart. She serves on the board of directors for Parklane Fine Art Gallery in Kirkland, Washington, and teaches finger-painting workshops at Cole Gallery in Edmonds, Washington. Kimberly co-authored Oil & Acrylic Workshop and is the author of Portfolio: Beginning Color Mixing and Portfolio: Beginning Composition, all from Walter Foster Publishing.

I found this book really useful. I've often followed painting tutorials, and wondered 'why did they tell me to use this particular colour?', or 'how can I make my own pictures hang together as well as this?'

This book has all of the answers. It also has the distinction of being the only art instruction book I've read every page of: a real gem.

Kimberly Adams hits it out of the park again! This book goes into the various components of composition from creating movement, contrasting values to positive and negative space and perfecting the background and everything in between. She breaks down paintings by showing the various components at work and how different things affect the outcome. I have all her books and this is clearly another gem!
