Product Description

- It's all fun and games...

I had a simple plan for spring break: Sun, sand, and a hot guy. Sex on the beach, with no strings attached.

I got my wish when I met Tyler McKenna.

- Until someone gets hurt!

But then young women started turning up at Key West landmarks - young women who looked like me, but with one crucial difference: they'd all been drugged and relieved of their virginity.

The virginity I still have. The virginity Ty doesn't want.

And now I wonder whether there isn't more to him than meets the eye.

- Suddenly, sex on the beach doesn't sound so good anymore...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing 12 March 2014
By AvidReader - Published on Amazon.com

I'm sure the writer is talented and worked hard on this book (that's why it pains me to write my very first negative review) but I just gotta say I found the cavalier depiction of rape and rape survivors in this book disturbing. I can't believe these are actual lines in the book when Cassie was thinking of the rape incidents: "Gah" and "double gah." When she was (spoiler) about to be assaulted, she was thinking first of how Ty would be devastated by HER assault. And then when it was revealed towards the end what happened to one of the local girls, it sounded so much like victim-blaming that I stopped reading and didn't even stay around for the HEA.
I've read NA novels that dealt with assault and some are even more violent, but none of them disturbed me as much as this one. It was so dismissive of what survivors go through. I know this is just fluffy fiction but doesn't that make the offense more egregious? The fact that such a devastating experience is taken this lightly? This is one in a series of books called Sex on the Beach. Did Ty and Cassie ever have sex on the beach? I wouldn't and didn't want to know anymore. What I know is that there was a rape on the beach (what that poor girl endured in the beginning) that was easily dismissed. I didn't get to the end but I hope they included a RAINN PSA at least.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Jenna Bennett has found another niche! 4 March 2014
By Jeanie Jackson - Published on Amazon.com

I have been a Jenna Bennett fan for some time, so I was delighted to get to read Before You in advance of it's release, especially since if falls into my favorite genre, romantic suspense. In spite of the series title this book is romantic as opposed to to steamy.

I fell in love with the book from the beginning even though it is NA and I am far from "new". I have found this category of books to be one that I can often related to, and Cassie Edward's story is a prime example. I can remember being in college and a little invisible and mostly okay with that but wondering if the right guy or experience would change that. Her famous friend Mackenzie decides that it is time to lose her virginity during Spring Break in Florida and encourages her friends to do the same. Cassie goes along on the trip, but she hasn't decided whether or not to make the big move. She meets a hot guy who seems interested in her but he is holding back, darn it. The focus of her trip flips when women who look a lot like her are raped and left to be found in public places and it seems to be more than a coincidence.

Each book in this three part trilogy is written buy a different author and I have not read books by the other two but I have heard good things about them, and I will definitely be buy the other two books. If they are even half as good as this one, I will get more than my money's worth.

At around 120 pages the book sounds short but it doesn't feel it; the characters and action are well developed.
4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of adventure 7 March 2014

This is an adventuresome little novella, and I quite enjoyed it! Until the end, which was a little cute but annoyed me. Or was cute but annoyed me a little. One of those. Both of those. It was worth the read, tho.

I liked that Cassie & Ty have a bit of an instant connection, but would have liked more actual interaction between them rather than most of the story being Cassie off on her own. The mystery in the story was quite twisty & interesting.

And I love the concept of 3 connected stories that take place at the same time but are written by different authors. A true collaboration, and a very neat idea. I'll reserve judgement on how well it works til I read the other two. ; )
3.0 out of 5 stars interesting storyline 14 March 2014
By Lisa Guzman - Published on Amazon.com

There are three books in this series and all done by three different authors. Yet they all intermix with one another. Beyond Me and Between Us were more about romance whereas this one was not. I was expecting this to be more like the other two books but instead it took a whole different approach. With the other two stories I wasn't too surprised that the three girls didn't meet up as often as I expected but with this one it surprised me. I supposed it has to do with the storyline line of girls getting drugged send raped. I just had a hard time understanding why Cassie didn't communicate with her friends about what was going on. I loved the other two books but this one not so much.
3.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't what I expected 14 March 2014

First off, it's different from the other two books in the series. One of the difference it that it's only from her POV, while the other have dual POV. The other thing that makes this different is it's more suspenseful, while the other two stories a little bit more fun. So, it might catch you off guard. Other than that, it's still a pretty good read. The romance isn't that strong, and some might feel that it's a bit rush. However, you need to take into consideration they are trying to catch a bad. Overall, Ty and Cassie isn't what I expect, yet the story is still decent.
