BECKONING BLOOD is the first instalment for first time author Daniel de Lorne’s new paranormal, adult, vampire series focusing on twin brothers Theirry and Olivier d’Arjou. The storyline spans over six hundred years-from 1390 to present day-following the brothers’s transformation to vampires and lethal killers. Beckoning Blood is a story of love, hatred, blood lust and sibling rivalry. This is not your sparkly vampire novel-this is a novel of betrayal and revenge between two brothers and a series of enemies they have made along the way.

NOTE: Beckoning Blood is a M/M storyline with graphic depictions of same sex scenarios, obsession and bloody violence.

The focus of the storyline is the relationship between twin brothers Thierry and Olivier d’Arjou. Growing up in a violent and abusive household the brothers are turned one fateful night that saw Thierry’s lover murdered and the brothers on the run. The storyline fast forwards in several spots, skipping hundreds of years at a time but what happens in the ensuing years is revealed when necessary to the plot and story. As Thierry continues to mourn the loss of his soul mate Etienne, Olivier’s thirst for blood and revenge are the building blocks of a violent history between two brothers who are searching for love and acceptance-Thierry’s search for his long dead lover in every soul that he meets and Olivier’s obsession and love for Thierry. With over six hundred years of history, the brothers have made many enemies and will soon discover they are not the only immortal beings with a thirst for revenge.

The relationship between Thierry and Olivier is volatile, necessary and emotional. They are tied to one another’s psyche through bloodline, power and pain.

HASH(0xaaf49c6c) out of 5 stars Book Review by PizzyGirl 25 July 2014

Beckoning Blood by Daniel De Lorne is a gruesome tale of two brothers that spans the centuries. This story is not one of your mainstream vampire tales of a culture living alongside the humans and coexisting in their own society. This is a tale of bloodthirsty monsters with no regard for human life other than as pawns in their twisted games. There is blood, gore, manipulation, all forms of abuse, obsession, scheming, and more.

However, interspersed between the episodes of abuse and murder, there is a plot line that held my attention from start to finish. I was constantly on edge waiting for the next tidbit to show me where this was going. This was not a tale of twincest as implied by the blurb. It was the story of Olivier’s crazed obsession with Thierry and Thierry’s desire to find true love and a life away from his brother. The author did a great job portraying the relationship between the men, developing the rationale behind their actions, and displaying the deterioration of Oliviers mental status. I did not realize that this was a start to a series(actually I am still not sure this is the start to a series), so I was a little shocked with the abrupt cliffhanger ending. I was impressed with the way the author strung me along because I was hopeful I would get answers to all my questions. However, the ending left me hanging and I am disappointed that I have no clue what is going on and no clue when the next installment will be!

My biggest issue with this book is that I found the blurb a bit misleading. I have issues with the portions that make it sound like this is a tale of love. There is no love between the brothers, only obsession and towards the end, hatred. Also, there is no love that never dies. Except at the very beginning, each instance of love is one sided, and at the end, it is still questionable whether the love is returned. I guess if the tag line is to encompass a series, it might be more accurate, but based on this blurb, I expect more love story than was actually presented.

Overall, I enjoyed this story, bloody as it was. It was different than most vampire tales and I am interested to see what will happen next.

HASH(0xaaf3321c) out of 5 stars A Gritty M/M Story 9 May 2014
By BookChatterCath - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Beckoning Blood starts off with some of the grittiest, gory scenes I’ve read in quite some time and I really loved it. Dark, dangerous and dirty; twins Thierry and Olivier know how to fight, how to keep secrets, and how to avoid their murderous father. Each with desires that could see them dead, living in a world full of fear and destruction, this paranormally linked pair struggle to stay alive in the squalor of 1390’s Carcassonne.

Really great writing and a story that gripped me from the start, Beckoning Blood was intriguing and mysterious and wrapped in all the sultry tones of an M/M romance full of twists and turns. Beckoning Blood covers different moments in time and places and I found myself really enjoying this raw, no-holds-barred story.

There were however, a couple of moments when the story became a little stilted and I found myself tempted to skim a few pages, but it would soon pick up again and I’d be thrust amongst another tremulous situation of treachery and jealousy.

Beckoning Blood is a centuries old roller coaster ride that spans the globe, full of debauchery, love, mystery and intrigue and I really enjoyed its rough and somewhat risqué story. I’ll happily read further books in this series - 4 Stars.

Beckoning Blood is not just gay erotica but has a great story line and clear plot development which is impossible to put and draws you in, blended with some very provocative steamy sex scenes. I couldn't put it down and I look forward to the next instalment.

HASH(0xab39e1c8) out of 5 stars A Beautifully Written, Dark, Blood-Drenched Love Story 13 November 2015

5 Stars

Ok, everyone get comfy because I am about to RAVE over this amazing book!

If you've read my reviews before, you know I rarely give 5 stars. But THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!

It finally sated my need for something dark because oh so deliciously dark it was. It was rich and deep and really pulled me in with no hope of return until I was done.

It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea though. In fact, it won't be anyone's cup of tea because it wasn't a cup of tea at all. It was like a stein of blood. Thick, silky, delicious blood. (I've never used the word stein before in my life, but it seemed fitting. I've also never drank blood, but that's just what reading vampire books will do to you.)

Alright then, now that you're sufficiently freaked out and questioning my sanity (or maybe just my choice in beverages), I should probably get on with some real reviewing.

I'll start with the writing style because OHMYGOODNESS. I WAS SO IN LOVE. I am such a fan of beautiful writing, and it was, indeed, so beautiful! For a while near the beginning I couldn't even stay focused because I kept stopping to freak out about how much I loved it. I realize that's weird, but that's pretty much the number one sign that I LOVE a book.

Then there was the settings. I don't generally care for historical settings, but somehow Daniel de Lorne made them fascinating and pulled me so deep into the feelings of the times and places that I was there. But there was never too much description; it was somehow just an inherent part of the story itself.

Obviously I also loved the vampire-y goodness, as I like to call it. This was definitely a "blood-drenched saga," as the blurb suggests.

There was also the characters, characters so filled with depth and emotion that UGH YES, JUST YES. (I make no apologies for my lack of coherent sentences.) There was the twisted, obsessive love that Olivier felt, the jealousy anytime Thierry felt anything for another man, and the pain every time Thierry left him, didn't stand up for him, etc. Then there was the love that Thierry felt for Etienne, *SPOILER ALERT* the pain he felt every time he lost Etienne or one of his reincarnations, *END SPOILER ALERT* the combination of hatred and attachment he felt for Olivier, and the self-loathing at the monster he'd become. Plus, the twins' connection, the way it worked, how they could feel each others' emotions and pain, made everything deeper, more heart-wrenching, and more fascinating.

I do want to add though, before wrapping this up, a trigger warning for sexual assault/rape as there's one scene with nonconsensual sex.

So, an entire novel-length review later, I'll just say Beckoning Blood was an incredibly beautifully written love story that I recommend to anyone looking for something to pull you away into a dark and blood-drenched world!

HASH(0xaaf37954) out of 5 stars 4.75 stars-seductively dark and dangerous 23 May 2014

With over six hundred years of history, the brothers have made many enemies and will soon discover they are not the only immortal beings with a thirst for revenge.

The relationship between Thierry and Olivier is volatile, necessary and emotional. They are tied to one another’s psyche through bloodline, power and pain. The twins are the epitome of good and evil; black and white; yin and yang. Years and centuries would separate the brothers but they are pulled to one another in an emotional tale of jealousy, love and family ties. When it finally looks like Thierry will be free of Olivier’s psychotic and painful deception, fate will step in when it is learned that Olivier is needed for a higher purpose. It is Olivier’s never ending love and need for Thierry that fuels his crazed and murderous jealous rages.

The secondary characters are numerous, colorful and play a continuous role throughout the storyline in various incarnations and sources of threats. The brothers will face their mortality on more than one occasion but there is always someone or something watching and waiting to step in and save the day.

Told from third person close point of view BECKONING BLOOD is a well written, evenly paced, original storyline of suspense and horror about a love between two brothers that is violent, graphic and not without some questionable moral ethics. There are no apologies for the death and destruction reaped by the brothers-they are, after all, predators and humans are their prey. But Thierry does have a conscience-one born of love-that pits the brothers against one another in an enduring battle of right and wrong throughout the years.

Daniel de Lorne has written a seductively dark and dangerous storyline where the fine line between love and hate is only a matter of blood. The world building spans centuries and countries; family and friends; death and rebirth. BECKONING BLOOD is astonishing in its’ violence; dramatic in its’ presentation; passionate in its’ love.
