I thought the book was good and listened to it on audio as well.
The Australian accent was fake and not quite right (I'm an Aussie) but it didn't matter - it's a fiction book and he can talk any way he wants to

I like Jake Henry in this story and I think that is what keeps me reading. I hate how much Australian slang is in this story, it is so over the top. I also don't like how the characters think something and then go and do it. It feels like you are reading the story twice.

I thought this story might get better, but it isn't. There is nothing wrong with idea and intention of this story, and the characters are good, but the delivery is just so slow and laborious ... it is disappointing.

A lot of sex and sadly not enough depth but still beautiful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2013Verified Purchase
Well I waited from midnight for this to upload and so glad on the whole.
So the story continues from book one and told in Laurlyn and Jack Henry's POV which I love and works.
I really did love part 2 ( as a lover of erotica books I am surprised I am going to write this) but there was too much sex and dirty talk and not enough storyline for me, it just did not match the flow of book 1
ANYHOW....
So after many nights of crying herself to sleep and Jack Henry pushing his private detector to the limits .... he finds her!
Laurlyn is now at the height of her career but in the USA and Jack Henry showing up confessing his love and future long plans with her and mind boggling sex has her head in a spin so the story is revolved around the big question if she should stay and follow her dream as a talented musician or move miles across the sea to be with the only man she ever sees herself marrying.
Throw in the mix 2 douche bag ex's a new admirer and not forgetting the old hag also known as Laurlyns mum and the lovely family of Jack Henry -this delivers satisfying conclusion.
4 stars instead of 5 for no epilogue and would have liked a little more punch in the storyline but am happy- could see a 3rd book working but necessary.

John Henry spend a a week trying to get over the fact that she left without saying anything and he is going crazy because he knows that he loved her he just didn't say it. He tries to get over her by finding number fourteen but all he can think about is Laurelyn he hires a PI to find her. It takes three months and, once he's with her he tries to persuade her to return with him only her career is just taking off. Neither of them seem to be able to make a decision and number fourteen doesn't when Laurelyn finally decides.

Not as good as the first
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 October 2013Verified Purchase
Hmm, I didn't enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed the first.
Don't get me wrong, it was still really good and I did enjoy it, I just didn't feel like the story line was as solid as the first one.
The plot for Beauty From Pain is so original that it really grips you, whereas I didn't find that to be the case with Beauty From Surrender.
I kind of felt like the whole thing could have been wrapped up in one super awesome book, instead of split between two. I felt like the issues were pretty much resolved around the 30% mark, to be honest.
This book begins where book #1 ends. Laurelyn is back in the US and Jack is still in Aus. Alone, unhappy and with no way to contact her, Jack Henry sets about finding a way to get his Laurelyn back.
"I'm going to do everything in my power to make it up to her because I hate what me without her looks like. I'm going to win her back, and when I do, I'm never letting her go again."
Of course, I still enjoyed reading about Jack Henry and Laurelyn. But this book had a much sweeter, less angsty feel about it, despite a couple of quite intense issues.
"I'm so p***ed off at you right now that I can't see straight. I simultaneously love the f*** out of you while I hate your guts. I don't know if I want to slap your face of get naked with you."
"My vote would be for getting naked, but I don't think they'll allow that here in the airport."
I was frustrated with Laurelyn for withholding information from Jack. It felt like the author only wrote it that way to give her something else to keep the story going, when in reality, that would be a ridiculous way to act. I couldn't see the point of it. And then, suddenly, she just changed her mind and suffered no consequence. I wasn't convinced.
"Don't ever forget that it's your job to teach him how to treat you."
The sex was hot as ever! Georgia Cates writes a mean sex scene and 'Beauty From Surrender' certainly wasn't lacking in that area. She also loves some good dirty talk and a strip tease, so you can look forward to a few of those.
"Orgasms are a physical necessity and should be prescribed by your doctor for good health. There's no reason you shouldn't be having at least one day. Personally, I recommend three. You brush your teeth three times a day to keep them healthy. Shouldn't your vagina be in tip-top shape too?"
It was cute to see Jack Henry's more vulnerable side, but I felt that there was a huuuge leap from the man we met in book #1, to the needy, desperate man we end up with in book #2. I get that he has changed and his love for Laurelyn has had him re-evaluating his life, but he almost seemed like an entirely different person. I mean, nobody wants heartless and mean, but a bit of bossy and dominating doesn't go amiss, right ladies? Where did bossy Jack go?! :(
"You're everything I never knew I wanted."
Aaaalso, Jack goes to Ben Donavon, Addison's brother, and asks for a way to contact Laurelyn. Obviously, being all jealous, Ben refuses... Ok, sounds legit. BUT... In book #1, Jack lays some stranger out for simply saying crude things about Laurelyn. Ben refuses to give him details, that he has easily available, that will lead him to the love of his life and solve all his problems, and he just accepts it and walks away???!!! Hell no! Come on Jack, man up! Pull up your big boy pants and fight for your woman! What happened to your balls?!
"There are three guys in a girl's life: one she loves, one she hates, and one she can't get enough of. The three have one thing in common. They're all the same guy."
I definitely felt like the book could have done with an epilogue!
However, I think that the author is leaving the option open for a possible novella, as an additional extra, at some point in the future. So I'll definitely be reading that because I'm certain that there is more to come. Well, one more little thing, to complete their story.
Ok, that's a reeeally negative review, and I didn't mean it to be. I guess I've just listed all of the reasons it went from five stars, down to four stars... but it is still four stars! I did still really enjoy Jack and Laurelyn's story, and I would definitely recommend this series.

Sigh. Amazing....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 February 2014Verified Purchase
I purchased this book last year with book 1. I didn't intend to read them until all 3 came out. I'm so glad I waited. There's no way I could of waited nearly a year for the final instalment of this story..
These books hooked, line and sunk me. An emotional roller coaster.
We start with book one were Laurelyn and her best friend Addison are heading towards Addie's brothers place in Australia for a 3 month trip.
Only this trip has another course in mind for the pair of best friends.
Addison meets the man of her dreams before they have even reached the apartment, while Laurelyn feels like she has been set up with her best-friends brother. But her true course has other plans.
Lo and behold Jack Henry. He offers L. 3 months of the best time of her life, no questions, no names. Just the best 3 months of her life. They go there separate ways at the end. Neither knowing the other persons name.
Unfortunately the path to true love never happens this way and they find out stuff about each other that they never expected. And true to form. They fall in love.
With his true love finally gone how will Jack Henry manage....
We continue the story from Laurelyn and Jack Henry.
We find out at the end of book one, that Laurelyn left, unable to stay as she loved a man she fought never loved her back. Little did she know Jack Henry was on his way to plead her to stay and tell her he loved her.
This book carries on with the roller coaster of Jacks past. His previous life style continues to haunt there new start in life. Both of there past bring up horrible issue for both of them. When they finally get some happiness something else seems to happen.
Thank fully we end in a HEA and the author Georgia Cates gives you the option of purchasing book 3 or leaving it here.
Personally I would read book 3 it is highly recommended.....

He will always be every song I sing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 January 2015Verified Purchase
At the beginning of this book I am devastated. Jack is in Australia, Laurelyn is in America. She thinks he didn't love her and knows they can never be together.
Jack doesn't even know her surname so how could he find her. I say easy! He knew Ben was from a Californian wine family and knew his surname so could have found Addison who would lead him to Laurelyn. That's what Facebook was invented for! If Jack had paid me instead of his private investigator I could have saved him 3 months!
Laurelyn's singing career begins to take off so when Jack does eventually find her going back to Australia to be with him when he clearly said no marriage and no kids just doesn't seem such an attractive option.
I highlighted so many sweet little interactions between them that my clippings grew exponentially!
"He will always be every song I sing."
"You're everything I never knew I wanted."
"You kissed my heart awake."
"You worry so much about protecting your toes that you miss out on the joy of the dance."
"Baby, I'll quit if you want me to, but you better decide fast because I'm close to blasting my swimmers into your cockpit."
I almost wanted to offer Jack Henry my own ovaries! Loved it.
