Product Description

Ember Walsh is a trusting soul with the quiet beauty of her late mother, who perished in a mysterious car crash when Ember was three. A little tomboyish from being raised by her father, Ember packs a punch when a stranger gets pushy with her in a bar, catching the steely blue eyes of a tall, gorgeous tattooed man—Trace Montgomery. Still damaged from her last disastrous relationship and warned off the bad boy by friends, Ember fights the smoldering heat that Trace sparks in her when he begins shadowing her like a dark angel.

Burdened by a lifetime of horror and heartbreak, amateur fighter Trace doesn’t want to want Ember. His deep self-loathing keeps him from having any meaningful relationships, but Ember is an itch he can’t scratch. The two push and pull, slowly crumbling their walls, seemingly brought together by fate, because the turmoil that haunts their pasts is interlinked in undeniable ways. But can these two fighters finally lay down their arms?

In Beautifully Damaged, L.A. Fiore delves into deep scars and lets love and forgiveness uncover redemption.

Revised edition: This edition of Beautifully Damaged includes editorial revisions and new scenes.

Anyone involved in the welfare of teenage girls will have mixed feelings about this novel. It's about Ember a shy girl who falls hard for rich bad boy and stud Trace who has serious emotional issues. Naturally Ember is obsessed with rescuing Trace even when he rejects her in cruel ways.

I know that Trace is a classic romantic hero, physically perfect, high status and a rescuer, the twin brother of Edward in the Twilight series. Even though he's not real I don't like him because I fear that by admiring this stereotype, my girls could be harmed by callous self serving boyfriends. In this book as in Twilight the heroine is rewarded for pursuing the dangerous bad boy. Hopefully my girls are smarter than Ember and discover it's the man who respects them who is worth pursuing.

For those looking for a light well written romance and a less compelling murder mystery, this is a good choice.

I enjoyed reading this book. A couple of times, my mind started to drift, but then there were times when Fiore showed clever writing skills and I was back in there. It's been spit into 2 parts with the first part setting up the circumstances for part 2, obviously. My only criticism is that a couple of the subplots in part 2 weren't introduced in part 1. However, the main storyline and other subplots start to link up as part 2 progresses. I have downloaded Beautifully Forgotten on the strength of this one.

Having just read Hurricane, I found this book to be VERY similar. Maybe if I had read this one first I would have liked it more but to read it back to back with the other was too much. Very similar story line, similar kinds of drama and similar characters. This one had a little more drama in it and it was a bit more convoluted and drawn out. I found it to drag at the end.

I didn't like the characters as much as I liked the ones in Hurricane either. The emotional intensity just wasn't there and I found a few things to be a bit corny.

The heroine, Ember was not that well developed as a character and I did not get any feeling for why the hero, Trace loved her as much as he did. Sure, he'd been following her for years when he discovered his family had something to do with her mother's death but I didn't really get into her character much at all.

And Trace was perfect. In that annoying way. Rich, good looking, damaged past that hasn't stopped him from having meaningless sex for years, starting his own restaurant (the best in the city.... actually two of them), and any other number of things regardless of his very very damaged psyche.

Just a bit too cliche for me this one. 3 stars.
