Have bought more books in this series, and can’t wait to read Liam/Tessa and Jensen/Tucker’s stories.
Anyway I hope this personal little review helps you in choosing a good story like Ms Cowles can write.
That all goes out the window when she meets the son of the people she's renting her cabin from. Deputy Chief Walker Cole is a good man with a loving family, and he understands grief, too - his high school sweetheart, Julie, was murdered a decade previously and her killer never caught. He's been dating Caitlin for a few months, but she doesn't spark a fire deep inside him like Taylor does. Try as he might to deny it, no woman ever has. He ends the relationship with Caitlin once he realises it's not going anywhere and she's a lot more serious about it than he is. Caitlin doesn't take the news well, which makes for some awkward encounters.
Taylor just wants to be left alone. She doesn't need or want anyone to be close to her, because everyone she loves leaves her eventually, whether it's by choice or not. She's struggling to cope with the loss of her mom, who was her best friend, and just getting through each day is hard. I found Taylor's grief incredibly painful to read, because I have recently lost my own mother and I could relate to it in every single way.
But the Cole family won't let Taylor become a hermit, and she eventually relents to joining them for meals and outings. Apart from Walker, his parents and his meddling but highly amusing grandmother, there is also his sister and nephew. They all adore Taylor and she eventually lets them into her heart, despite her repeated attempts to push them away.
Taylor doesn't want to be attracted to Walker, but she is, and he starts to break down the wall she has so carefully put up around her heart. It's a gorgeously slow burning relationship, with each of them cautious about giving their heart to the other, given their pasts. But they eventually can no longer deny how they feel, and soon enough they're spending every night together.
While Walker is deliriously happy with his personal life, professionally it's a different matter: girls have started going missing and are turning up dead, and they all look like Julie. It looks as though her killer is back again, and Walker is determined to catch him. Julie's death is the reason he became a cop, so no other family would have to go through what he did if he can help it.
Both Walker and Taylor find themselves targeted by this killer, and what happens to them will leave you holding your breath. Will they get the happy ending they both so richly deserve? You're just going to have to read this book to find out.
Catherine's writing is beautifully lyrical. She has a way with words that is just magical; her books are so easy to read and suck you in from the beginning, so that you're wanting to drop everything else and just finish it. And when you do, you're sad because you just want more. Beautifully Broken Pieces deals with some dark topics - death, grief, murder - which could have made for a very heavy book, but Catherine is a gifted enough writer to ensure that every single word is just perfect. Although emotionally painful to read in some places, there's enough light - with well-rounded, well written characters and a romance that is both deep and a little raunchy (which I loved!) - to ensure it never drags or lets you become too mired in the darkness.
This book is and will remain one of my favourite romances of all time. If you consider yourself a romance fan, you need to read Beautifully Broken Pieces.
Taylor Lawson is suffering she cannot get over the death of her mother and has retreated to Sutter Lake in Oregon she intends to keep to herself and basically just lick her wounds but that isn't what is going to happen. Walker Cole is the local deputy chief and he is still suffering from his girlfriend been murdered ten years earlier and the case was never solved he is currently dating but breaks it off when he realises she is a lot more serious than him. Taylor may want to keep her self unattached but renting her new home from the Cole family means that she is drawn into their family and Walker makes her start to feel again. Can these two damaged souls find peace in one another and will they get a HEA This is a story that absolutely guts you as you read it you go through the entire gamut of emotions This is an author that is an artist at making you feel for her characters. I would give more than 5 starts if I could
I was given a copy of this book but this is true and honest review
Taylor is running for her grief trying to find a world where she can function and not feel that gaping hole that has been left inside her chest. Staying in Sutter Lake is the best choice for her right now, the entire Cole family lead by Walker takes her under their wing giving her the love she has been missing.
When their small town is rocked by the death of one of their own, they are all on edge trying to piece together how this is happening. For the 2nd time in his life Walker is searching for someone who means everything to him, will he find her or be a victim himself?
I personally loved these two characters their own grief and issues brought them closer, while I felt a little frustrated with Taylor everyone grieves differently. Cowles did not disappoint throwing a little bit of everything into this book I was left on the edge of my seat wondering if my theory was correct.
I really enjoyed having Carter and Austin back in the mix, I loved Further to Fall and Cowles amazing writing and potting have continued with Beautifully Broken Pieces.
I look forward to more from the Sutter Lake series, all future books have been added to my, to read list.

Walker's family especially his gran were fab in this, and added a wonderful layer to the tale, as did Taylor's friends.
As they begin to let their walls down, and build a relationship that is lovely to watch, danger gets closer and closer to Taylor - someone isn't happy about her relationship with Walker, and someone else is keen to hunt her.
Delightfully surprised by the book and the main characters, found myself drawn in and lost in the pages of the story! See myself re-reading this more than once.
So much grief, sadness, anxiety and love in the pages of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word.
Taylor is grief stricken and running away from life, friends and any emotion. She wants to live a solitary life after losing her Mother. Pushing everyone away made me want to shout at her. She has a fabulous set up in Sutter Lake; Walker and all of his family are simply wonderful, why not accept their love?
Walker. What can I say about this super sexy cop? He is everything. I’d keep him in an instant; him and his quirky family.
The writing had me on the edge of my seat and sobbing into my pillow a few times. Emotions are rife in my heart right now.
This is my first book by Catherine Cowles but I kinda need to see if there are any more books from the characters of Sutter Lake.
Taylor and her friends go to Sutter Lake as she needs peace after a bereavement. But she also needs to escape her well meaning friends and find peace within herself. So, she rents a cottage, and then as departure day draws closers she tells her friends she will be staying when they leave.
This cottage is on Walker Cole's family lands. He's a policeman. And he finds Taylor very appealing.
And so begins a sort of dance, one step forward, one step back, as they work out how it's going to go.
Meanwhile, a killer is on the loose and Walker's involved in the hunt for him...
This story has it all - romance, anticipation, humour, friendship, drama and a damned good mystery!
I can't wait for Book 2 to be released!
Romance is my preferred genre and its not often Infind an author to shout about. The love story was swoon worthy, the characters had substance and strong backgrounds, and the sub plots were strong. The element of thriller snd mystery kept me in suspence and the missirection is throughly thought oit and planned. I normally catch plot twists and who done its, but this was thoroughly entertaining.
I read the entire series straight after amd wasnt let down.
Well worth the investment to have the collection in your library!
This is my second book by Catherine Cowles and it definitely won't be my last. Beautifully broken pieces is a story about two broken souls, Walker and Taylor, that found each other and together were able to heal their broken hearts.
If you love small town romance, suspense and mystery, then this is the book for you.
This book had me experiencing so many emotions to was a truly wonderful read.
Catherine's writing just flows and she draws you into her words with a fabulous storyline.
