Product Description

Everything about the man screamed confidence. Sensuality. Intelligence. Worldliness. But it was how he saved me that ruined me most.

Through him, I learned to end my path of self-destruction. I no longer needed to numb the pain with mindless one-night-stands and drunken blackouts. He made me feel worthy. Treasured. Optimistic about my future.

Here I stand four years later, in a coffee shop a world away, still broken…but beautifully so. My scars no longer hold me back. Instead, they give me strength and enrich my appreciation for the good things in life. I have hopes and dreams…faith that anything is possible. I am no longer the lost little girl fighting for survival. I have direction. I have courage. I am not without possibility.

I’ll always have Gavin to thank for that—Mr. Cooper, I remind myself. That’s who he is to me now: just a former teacher. I know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry. I was eighteen when we first met. Legally, we did nothing wrong. Morally? Well, I guess that depends on how flexible your morals are.

My name is Kat and this is my story.

Beautifully Broken by Laura Lee is a contemporary Romance that depicts a relationship that most would consider forbidden- a student/teacher relationship. Now normally, in the real world- I would be the first to say, “no way, that’s not right.” But this is fantasy and the subject happens to one of my guilty pleasures. This deliciously wicked story has a twist, a plausible excuse if you will- both characters are of legal age; the teacher isn’t trying to take advantage of a vulnerable and innocent student; they meet outside of the school setting, not knowing ages or occupations; and she looks a lot older than she is.
Katherine Kennedy (Kat/Red) has endured a lot for someone her age. She is a high school senior who dreams of attending college far away from this small town. Her mother is a drug addicted hooker and Kat has no idea who her father is.
Kat has been in and out of the foster care system since she was very young. She has had a very difficult life; her only escape is the alcohol and sex she uses to numb the pain of the memories that torment her- even if it’s only a temporary reprieve.
Celebrating her 18th birthday- Kat meets Gavin Cooper (Sparkles/ Mr. Cooper), who has recently moved to town. He has the most gorgeous turquoise eyes she’s ever seen, full lips, broad shoulders and is ruggedly handsome.
Gavin is curious- he wants to know more about her, then there’s the sexually charged energy that seems to sizzle between them that just can’t be ignored. Their attraction is so primal and completely overwhelming.
Kat has rules- no names, no personal information and absolutely no sleepovers. They spend the night together and experience the most passionate and fulfilling sex of their lives. But, when he wakes in the morning, she is gone.

An enjoyable taboo romance, student teacher. This book was believable in plot and the characters realistic. Teenage girls do have crushes on the young good-looking teacher, it's just not often that those feelings are reciprocated.

Kat and Gavin meet in a bar on her 18th birthday, not knowing she is only 18 he buys her a drink and eventually takes her home. Their lust filled encounters come to a sudden holt when Kat goes back to school for her final year to find Gavin is her new teacher, Mr Cooper.

The coming year is full of many challenges for the pair, the moral issue of their teacher / student relationship is only part of those challenges and they try and fight their feelings and maintain some distance. As the school end approaches these challenges become to much and they go their separate ways.

Kat and Gavin do find their HEAs but is that together? Read the book.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this now! I received an ARC and still pre-ordered it! 20 November 2016

*I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my completely honest review*

It took me much longer than I would have liked to finish this book. But I want to make a point that it had NOTHING to do with the book! I was so exhausted from moving on Monday and working crazy hours all week. To be honest, I didn’t read nearly as much as I would have liked to in general this past week. So that put me way behind my reading schedule for this month. But that’s ok, hopefully I can catch up.

Now on to why you’re really here. Beautifully Broken was beautifully amazing. I know super cheesy, but seriously this book was so good. The only reason I didn’t give it a FULL 5 stars was because it didn’t leave me speechless. It left me feeling content and happy, which is still just as good!

Kat is one of the main characters and the story is told from her perspective. As the title states she is broken in so many ways and once she meets Gavin she becomes beautifully so. Throughout the story, readers slowly learn the terrible things that have happened to Kat throughout her life. The things she has overcome and experienced in her life isn’t something that can be easily overcome and will ALWAYS leave her broken. But with Gavin’s help she finds a way to move forward from the brokenness, even though it is still a part of her and THAT is what is so beautiful.

Now Gavin… he is 100% swoon worthy. He’s handsome, smart, amazing in the bedroom, romantic, thoughtful, honest, realistic, and understanding. He has almost every desirable trait you can think of, except he can be extremely jealous (but that could be a good trait if you like that kind of thing) and when his anger comes out (which isn’t very often) it seems like he’s a completely different person. After going through a recent divorce he decides to uproot his life and move to a new city to start over. This is where he meets Kat in the middle of one of her coping mechanisms to escape from the brokenness of her life. Neither one of them expected that one night to turn into something more and something so incredibly beautiful. The obstacles Gavin and Kat have to overcome are definitely big ones. And they do overcome most of them.

Until the twist comes which completely blind sides Gavin, Kat, and the readers. They are forced to make a very difficult decision where it seems like no decision is a good one or the right one, but one has to be made nonetheless. This is when I realized just how emotionally invested in the story I was because I felt my heart being ripped out and I was literally on the verge of tears. I was completely miserable for the time that they were completely miserable. The most frustrating part was that they THOUGHT they were doing what was best for the other, but in no way was that true. However, they couldn’t find it inside of them to put it aside and just voice how they were feeling. Disappointing.

Laura Lee does save the story in the end. It left me smiling and so completely happy when we get a glimpse into the future (4 years later). I felt it wrapped up the story very nicely and left no questions unanswered.

This book is so amazing that I CANNOT wait for it to RELEASE on November 15, 2016. Everyone should definitely pre-order a copy of this because it truly is beautiful! I will definitely be recommending this book to others!

5.0 out of 5 stars There's a meaty layer of real life issues served up in Beautifully Broken 16 November 2016

Beautifully Broken is in a student/teacher league of it's own! This book is so much more than I could have ever imagined and hoped for. Yes, it was fan-freaking-tabooulous with the sexy times! It was heartbreaking, yet beautiful. Simply haunting. Not many leave me at a loss for words but Laura Lee certainly did a number on my heart with this one!! Of course there were little chuckles here and there at just the perfect time to help balance out the intensity of EVERYTHING.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, get ready to be inundated with ALL. THE. FEELS! They flow deep and they flow hard. Man, oh, man. This hangover is going to suck!!

For Kathleen Kennedy life hasn't been all sunshine and lollipops. Unless you call having a crack w#@r3 for a mother and being bounced around the foster care system and screwing around with guys to numb the pain a good time. Yeah, she's a messed up jumbled ball of severely f@#$%d up.

Its by far the most complex student/teacher story line I've ever read, but Laura Lee writes this story with such finesse and sophistication you can't help but get sucked in AND then suddenly your favourite trope is sitting on the back burner because the rest of it is just so mindblowingly overwhelming. You can't look away from the book. Sure at times parts are a train-wreck of obliterated emotions but everything in the book leads to such a beautiful and perfect HEA... GAH! I just can't even right now. There's just so much to this book, so many layers! I can't even begin to sort out everything right now. The high from this book is just completely euphoric.

This book needs to be read! It's not all sex and champagne. There's a meaty layer of real life issues dished out in Beautifully Broken!!

I can't say enough great things about this book!
I love it!
I love it!
I love it!

"You're so perfect," he whispers.

5+ Beautiful Love Stars

I absolutely love forbidden teacher/student romances. Beautifully Broken did not disappoint. I loved every word, which was beautifully written. It had some very dark sad moments however without these incidents I don't think Kat would have survived and turned out the way she did! It was refreshing too that it was not a childish love story as Kat was very mature for an 18 year old. Gavin was such a gentle sole who had so much love and respect for Kat and to top it off he was sexy as sin. The secondary charters in the book too were very entertaining and enjoyable.

I highly recommend this amazing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invokes every emotion. Completely enthralling. 19 November 2016

Beautiful story. Invokes every emotion. Difficult to put down and go to bed. Relatable real characters who are perfectly imperfect. Deals with many hard and ugly topics in a way that doesn't make you uncomfortable or feel cheesy. Laura's stories always leave me craving more of her beautiful writing. In my top favorite authors with Vivian Arend, Lauren Dane, and Gena Showalter. I love that she is so accessible to her fans on Facebook and always replies or comments herself and quickly.

Let me start by saying that I adore Laura Lee's books. I pre-ordered this one as soon as I could and just could not wait until it was available. That being said, I didn't read it right away. This is not Karli Lane.

I think I was in the first third of the book when I realized I was crying. I'm not used to being moved by book characters. I'm used to being entertained, excited, titillated, enraged, etc. I can only think of one other novel that moved me to tears in the long, long time I've been reading. I loved "watching" Kat evolve into herself, wanted to punch Gavin several times, and cheered for the HEA.

Congratulations, Laura. This is a homerun.
