Product Description

"I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating salmon."

Kyla Greene is frustrated after a popular reality show put her pack--and all shifters--on the map. Not only are the residents of Wolf Rock getting more attention than they ever wanted; it's not the nice kind.

Enter Maddox, a half-Maori bear of a man. The quiet, extraordinarily beautiful, oddly mysterious stranger gets Kyla's juices flowing and causes a stir of his own in town.

Suddenly, things are looking up. And then down. And then up again, while disturbing incidents tear at the fabric of the shifters and of the community itself.

This 40,000+ word novel is intended for readers 18 years and over due to mature content of a sexual nature. It's the second in the Wolf Rock Shifters series after Winning the Alpha, though it reads as a stand-alone novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really loved this 30 August 2015

Kyla is one of the she wolves in the long tooth clan at wolf rock. (She was in the last book were their old alpha told humans about them all in a TV show about him finding a mate. ) with the breaking news has also brought trouble in all forms so trouble us brewing.
Maddox is a were bear looking for someone but he runs into Kyla at the bar instead. Instant attraction but duty calls.
Strange men keep getting attacked close to the wolves hidden home by what looks like a bear.
Yea I think I told enough to give you an idea about this fun book without giving it away! I loved it. So much hotness, attraction, action and did I say hotness? Lol
The characters are wonderful, ones you want to keep around book after book. Storyline is fun and interesting. I had a great time with this and the author can really write an awesome story. You will not be disappointed

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad 24 April 2014

The story line was interesting. I liked the fact of the different shifters. There were some steamy scenes in here as well. But ... I don't feel lost at the end... like losing your BBF. When it ended that was it. Nothing I could sit back and say WoW!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As The First Story: Winning the Alpha 1 May 2014
By Daniel Bowen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Winning the Alpha was the first book in this series, this book, Bearing Up in Wolf Rock is the second. While I enjoyed the humor and quirky characters of the first book, this one doesn't pass muster.

Kyla Greene is a curvy wolf, one of the few females in her pack. She seems to be a sentry for the pack, trusted by the alpha, and out patrolling. Other than that there isn't much about her. She meets up with Maddox in a bar and they're both strongly attracted to each other. While they do act on that attraction, it's this back and forth. . . Will he stay, will the alpha accept him, all this back and forth stuff which dragged out the plot.

Like most shifter books, hunters are involved. In this one they are more detailed and solutions are given, so at least those ends are tied up. But there wasn't any edge of my seat type of anticipation. The whole thing was boring. Of course shifters heal and survive but the way it was written -- Kyla didn't go into any deep emotion, it was more about the facts and a quick recovery.

I thought it odd Maddox talked about his parents but never called them. Kyla was phoning everyone yet Maddox was not. Not even when things were settled.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this for those that loved the first story, as I did. This one had no humor, the angst was a bit over the top because the situation was just odd, and the hunters were pansies. The whole wrap up was a bit too pat. - Dan's Wife
4.0 out of 5 stars Very good 11 December 2015

This is the second book in the Wolf Rock shifters series. The stars of the first book are present but play a lesser role as Kyla, a wolf, and Maddox, a bear, are front and center. In the first book the previous alpha had insisted on doing a show like The Bachelor (the alpha basically had human women compete to be his mate) which outed the shifters. In this book the shifters town is being flooded with human tourists all come to see the shifters. Unfortunately it also brought hunters who were trying to kill the shifters. It's very hair raising waiting to read who gets hurt and whether the hunters are going to kill anyone, not to mention some hot moments between the bear and the wolf. The story was good, it was well written with a few editing issues but had some moments where it went way too slow, however the author picks up the pace and the story moves fairly quickly after that. Definitely worth reading. Can't wait to get the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it! 14 May 2014

This is the second in the series. The first is "Winning The Alpha". I read this one first; it stands alone just fine. This book is one of the best BBW shifter romances out there. The female lead is strong and the relationship with her male counterpart is complex, sweet and thoughtful. It's not poisoned by an overdose of hyperbole. Some BBW shifter books are just way too "damsel in distress". This is nothing like that. In this book the female lead is real, solid, competent and truly a hero. This is done really well. She is treated as a whole person. In fact, she is not a "strong female" at all; she is a strong person. It's great! Wilder manages to get her lead well and truly romanced by a man without making any insinuation that her gender implies ownership by the man. There is no "claiming". They fall in love. It's really freaking nice. And the sex is great!
