One found the Guide a excellent compilation of theory and practical techniques that is a "must read" for any novice undertaking soldering of electrical components to printed circuit boards.
At the same time a refresher for those who may not be novices but are not regularly practising the art of soldering electrical components to printed circuit boards (PCB) especially if the PCB is relatively modern.
The guide would be useful for any teacher and or student in Australia of UEENEEH102A "Repairs basic electronic apparatus faults by replacement of components"

The inspired use of visuals with succinct plain English supporting text imparts the acumen of the highly experienced and very knowledgeable author Mr Alan Winstanley a stalwart of the UK media supporting electronics from professionals to hobbyists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good intro to soldering 19 January 2016

A lot if information for those new to soldering (like me.) If you want to lean how to solder and have little or no experience this book is an excellent resource. You could probably find most of the information on the internet if you are patient and organized but this was an easy read (one evening) and all the information you need is one place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Skills and Equipmemt Overview 15 January 2014
By Curtis Collins - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Good overview of basic skills and equipment. Like many, I've been soldering badly for years (decades) and always intended to improve my skills. This book is a good start.

Sponsered by Antex, an equipmemt vendor, so their gear is referenced as examples, but not to the point that it detracts from the good content of the book.

Good explanations, and guide book.
4.0 out of 5 stars It covers pretty much all of the basic points to soldering 17 February 2017

It covers pretty much all of the basic points to soldering. While it hasn't answered all of my questions or helped me fix all of my mistakes, it has helped me get a broad understanding of what I'm doing. I was informally trained by coworkers in soldering about 15 years ago and have been trying to relearn. This book has been an excellent refresher tutorial.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for first-time solderers 28 May 2016

An excellent book for someone learning to solder for the first time. Clear, reasonably well-written. Good, clear photography. I have a few quibbles about wording, photographic details, presentation order, etc. but nothing of real consequence. It's nice that there's a page on first aid, too!

Note that this book does not address the soldering of surface mount devices.
