Heart wrenching

Fantastic story. I would of liked Ian to be charged for the thing he did to his father, no excuses. His dad was hard on him yes but the men in the outback have different survival patterns. It a very lonley life for a wife and Lora did her upmost to become the best outback queen. I know what its like to crave visitors and to get the best governess and workers in the Pilbara and the Kimberlies. I would recomend this book for anyone to read, specialy if you have had experience working or being friend to any of the station owners.

This book ,I found an interesting and seemingly accurate portrayal of the Australian outback and seemed an adventurous description of an exciting lifestyle for the era that it represented. The inventiveness of the start and ending of the story added to it's readability.

Di Morrisey at her best. This book has it all. Loveable characters. Set in the Australian outback, this is a love story full of tragedy, twists and turns that keep you guessing. Hard to put down. Definitely a favorite.

This story was a riveting read of a family and their Kiwi governess/nanny who had a culture shock when she took on the job of teacher to the three sons and the Aboriginal children whose parents worked on the station.It covered a whole gambit of emotions; betrayal, love, death, happiness, grief, loyalty, jealousy, birth, and murder! What more could you ask for?

An excellent story about life in outback Australia. The research to write such a book must have been meticulous as the detail of all aspects of life on a cattle station is astounding. The lives of the people involved is told in an interesting way, not dwelling on romance or tragedy, keeping the readers interest in the lives of those involved until the end.
