Wow. Just wow. Pamela Clare has done it again! I won't lie – I was equal parts excited and worried to start this new series. After being such a huge fan of Pamela's I-Team series, I knew that the bar was sky-high for this book. And honestly, I wasn't sure the move from romantic suspense to contemporary romance would float my boat in the same way the I-Team books did – I was worried that perhaps it was the suspense part that made her previous books 'unputdownable' for me, I mean while the romance was always there, it was the suspense that made me want to find out what happened and keep reading until 4am. As it turns out... I'm thinking I might have been wrong!!
This book is just beautiful and literally everything I could ever want in a romance novel – the humour was subtle (the handcuff scene seriously had me laughing out loud!) and light-hearted, not forced like it often is in other books. The romance was amazing – not at all instalovey and the chemistry was off the charts. And the sex... Let's just say it was fantastic! I adored the ending – getting to see Austin come to the rescue was just perfection. And the inclusion of the knockers legend was done really well too - I honestly can't even find the words to express the perfection of it all! This is how romance should be done! I read a few reviews that said it was too 'climbing-centric' but I didn't feel like that at all... in fact quite the opposite, I really enjoyed learning as I was reading.
I literally can't pick out a single negative. I can't even think of a single improvement, that's how much I enjoyed it! Actually... I guess there is one negative – reading a Pamela Clare novel ruins you for all other romance books!
As you'd expect with a Pamela Clare book, the writing was faultless and the story flowed naturally. Both the main characters and the supporting characters were entirely consistent and had rich storylines that intertwined well both with the town and with each other. They felt so real that they all felt like old friends! And Scarlet Springs was described so thoroughly that it felt like my own home! I also loved the inclusion of Gabe and Zach – I thought that was such an awesome touch! I felt like we hadn't quite said goodbye to our old friends!
I know I'll probably have to wait a while but I am SO excited for the next book – I think I might have discovered a new favourite series!!
Lexi returns to her hometown after twelve years away, and reconnects with the boyfriend she left behind. She doesn’t plan on staying permanently but he works to change her mind.
Although I’ve read similar books to this before, what sets it apart is the background- the part of Colorado it’s set in - the climbing/Search and Rescue world the characters are from. I found it fascinating and it really added to the appeal of the book.
All in all, a great read - I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Pamela Clare is a wonderful writer - you can actually feel yourself in the town experiencing all the thing that are happening. There is sex in the book and the scenes between H/h are hot but with an interesting storyline in between the scenes.
Start reading - its free so even better
