Petya Andrusha is the brother of Valerik and Nicolai from the previous books in the series. Having finished with for trapping he has become a bounty hunter. Having been badly beaten he discovers Fantine Pomeroy and five orphans in a campsite, heading towards Virginia City. They are the only survivors from a fire that burnt their orphanage.
I found Fantine's character to be too saintly and her reason for staying at the orphanage contrived. After all she only had to ask the nuns to search the records and she could have been on her way home. The characters of the children were bland. They were not really given any real identities and were so well behaved.
Their trauma did not really come across in the story at all. No real emotion was conveyed in the story as the reader might well expect after brothers had been apart for years. The relationship between Petya and Fontine did not happen. No signs throughout the story at all. Very disappointed.

Tender Sweet LoveReviewed in the United States on 27 April 2017
This story is the end of a 4 book sequence. It can stand alone, but I enjoyed reading them in order. The excitement and story lines captured my imagination. The details of the era and country side are vivid and interesting. I felt like I was transported to Montana Territory in the late 1800s. The children are precious and the hearts of Fantain and Pete develop into true love.

Strange Title Made ClearReviewed in the United States on 8 June 2017
The author did a marvelous job setting up her plot with a tragedy all too common in frontier towns. The author didn't sugar coat the struggles her characters experienced as they continued to face life while haunted by what had happened. Her characters are complex and engaging. The children are delightful. I definitely recommend this book.
