I put off reading this book, but it was completely worth the wait. Yes it is about a woman of color in the USA and some chapters didn’t relate to me a white woman in Australia - those were the chapters where I listened & learned another woman’s perspective. But for more than 2/3 of the chapters my heart sang, I smiled, I knew a shared solidarity of parallel existence. Every woman in the global north needs to read this book if she hopes to be a better feminist.
I put off reading Bad Feminist for too long. Roxane Gay is brilliant, well read, with deeply thought out opinions. I felt I could hear her reading this back to me. Gay is funny, eloquent, natural. I was drawn in and drawn along on an adventure of knowledge and perspective.
Bad Feminist educated me on so much that I should know as a women because it directly effects me but isn’t talked about or even seen as an issue in our society. I will be a better defender of equality of the sexes because this book!
I cheered when reading the definition of bad feminist. I laughed so hard I cried reading about 50 Shades and the drinking game. Then I felt truly uncomfortable about the portrayal of culture in our media as its so real. What can I say, I loved every single page.
A wonderful, inspiring romp through the wonders and joys of feminism as it can be. This book should be on the reading list of every school in the world! Loved it and will recommend to my entire network.
