I liked:
- The quality of the joysticks, d-pad, ABXY buttons
- Doesn't require charging!
- Supports (I imagine) most phone cases or no phone case
- Comfortable fit in my average sized hands
- Small form factor and light
- Nice visual design, especially in white, looks like a premium product

Could be better:
- The R1, R2, L1, L2 triggers are slightly mushy, but far from the worst I've used
- I'm concerned that the USB C connector design will in the long term lead to damage to either my phone or the controller, but this is yet to be seen. I would keep an eye on other reviews to see if this is the case.
- The Select/Start buttons (or their equivalents) are near the bottom of the controller and are awkward to reach, especially in games that use them a lot
- Price tag is a little high, but I would argue it's worth it

Overall I'm very happy with the controller and can see myself using it a lot for travel, due to its light weight, small form factor and lack of a need for charging. Controller support on iOS is pretty good, but there are still a few games that surprisingly don't support controllers (e.g. Mario Kart Tour). Now that emulators are officially sanctioned on iOS I would strongly recommend picking one of these up.

I never write any reviews for products, but this thing is so well put together that I feel I owe it to the creators. Usually I don't like cloud gaming, since I hate having any kind of input lag, but recently I had an accident and all I could hold was a controller, but I still wanted to play my PC games. If you have a fibre connection the input lag is barely noticeable, to almost non-existant. The controller works for all the popular remote play apps like Steam, PS5 and Xbox. Plus game pass ultimate is on sale for $1 for the first month at the time of this review, which is excellent. I love the Backbone app as well, I have used to for 20 or so hours so far and it hasn't crashed once (using an iPhone 13 Pro Max). Its a bit pricy at $170ish AUD but what you get is well worth the asking price. Steam Remote is by far the best performing out of all the others, but that could also be because I was playing slightly older games. Best part is some of these older titles play like a dream when remote playing. If you don’t have the money for a gaming PC this is a really good alternative.

At the time of this review I have not yet tested how well Nvidia Geforce Now performs, but given how well the other three have performed, I have no doubt it will be just as good.

All in all, however if the streaming services let you down its not because the Backbone One is a bad product, it could be because you don't have stable/good network, or that the streaming service is bad. Hence it you are looking to get this purely for apple arcade games or playing locally on you iPhone its probably not worth it, since you wont be getting the best out of the device.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to step away from their computer and play on a couch relaxing, or someone who perhaps doesn't have a good rig, and an Xbox Series S/X. Another important, thing is the finish and packaging, which was very premium and well put together, the quality of the sticks and buttons feel very good indeed, and while the device itself is very light, its not a sign of bad build quality but rather importantly how light it needs to be since you also have to consider the weight of the iPhone.

This is an upgrade due to husband changing to iPhone 15 and that phone comes with updated usb-c. His first backbone was terrific and he used it all the time, still works great just won’t connect to the new phone charge port. No hesitation at all buying the new model. Highly recommend for gamers who love their Xbox.

I've really been enjoying the backbone one! Started using it, groaned at the 1 year *free trial* for their software, but I've been using this to game on my phone and it's really made phone gaming viable for me now. I'm using this as much as I'm using my switch! The triggers DO have half and full presses that are registered to my PS5 on remote play, the buttons have a nice clicky feel to them, and the joysticks work well! (Note, these are effectively Nintendo Switch quality joy sticks - do with that information what you will)

It must also be said that you really CAN'T HAVE ANY PHONE CASE while using the backbone. I personally use the Apple leather case with my 12 Pro, and yes, it's still too big. Have the expectation that you'll need to remove yours, but again, this hasn't negatively affected my experience at all.

Interestingly, while I thought the software on the app would be an essential experience, I've found that more and more I'm using the backbone app LESS and not even pushing the backbone button. All it does is provide an easier (and sometimes better) way to do things that you can already do on your phone. You don't need a subscription to record gameplay, and you don't need a subscription to jump between games.

Overall, despite the complaints about the software, I would still recommend this! While yes, there are cheaper options out there, this is a solid, good feeling device and I don't regret the purchase at all :)

RE: TCL T775H Android Phone.
In-game USB-C "through-charging" did not work. Phone only charges for 2 secs & then turns off (when connected to Backbone Controller). So for me, the Backbone controller was useless, as medium to high; GPU-hungry phone games, will deplete a phone battery very quickly. Also, the promotion of being able to play numerous, different gaming brand console platforms is somewhat deceptive - It can only be achieved through "Remote control" of a gaming console or PC.

I've been using the backbone for a while and it's been a game-changer for mobile gaming.

My partner bought me this because I've been suffering with a herniated disc with nerve compression and so couldn't enjoy sitting in my PC chair to game at present.

Using this little bit of kit I've been able to not only play on my PS5 while laid comfortably but also my Xbox and Steam games as well as some Google Play Store games.

The buttons feel great to use albeit took a little getting used to if you're more accustomed to a PS5 controller.
It easily fits my Samsung S23 Ultra although I do have to remove my case as mine is designed to combat my clumsiness and is therefore rather chunky.

The app itself is a great addition to making things easier to switch between sources of games and took no time at all to set up.

Due to my back issues I've not as yet been able to test this on the go but if you are like me and have a medical issue that affects your hobby this is a fantastic middle ground to help you out.
