I had to force myself to finish reading this book. Why anyone would stay in a town so mismanaged and economically depressed when they have the means to be somewhere better is beyond me. I just am having a tough time buying the entire series. The wealthy people on the outskirts of town took their kids out of the school before the first book of the series. How hard did they try to remedy the situation?
It seems like Ms Trent forgot a major draw of a small town setting is the community. It plays a small role at the very most in these books.
Not only is this story no exception it is a battle of wills when the boy who broke Justine Ecklund's heart returns to town only to find he made the wrong choice. Why didn't he ask his family what the deal was?
Gray Voss comes home to give his son roots and get back the love of his life. Justine is having none of it. There is no build to their romance. I don't get it.
If I could see the the town was trying to get better I might have found it a little more believable. If the Storafalt series interests you let this review be a warning that you may be disappointed.
The resolution comes out of no where in the last three pages of the story. There is no logic in the outcome and I suppose the lose ends are meant to encourage the reader to come back for more. Write a better book and I would have.
If you've never read the earlier books don't begin here.
Product Description
The last time Justine Eklund had heard from Gray Voss was when he’d agreed to take her to her sister’s wedding. He stood her up. Twelve years later, he’s back in Wyoming as the new owner of Storafalt’s only pharmacy. He didn’t come alone, though. He brought along the small cowboy town’s best-kept secret—his preteen son, Danny.
Gray wants to pick up where he left off. He never stopped loving the beautiful rabble-rouser, and thinks she’ll fit seamlessly into his little family. Justine yearns to reignite that old torch, but she’s wary. She’s not convinced her high school sweetheart will stick around.
Storafalt’s only school is on a rapid decline, so Gray may have no choice but to return Danny to the life they built in Austin. If he goes, there’s no way Justine can go with them. Unlike Gray, she’s rooted too deeply to leave.
***Note: this is the second edition of a previously-published work.
