A two-part allegory, An Australian Bush Fantasy uses expertly crafted rhyme and meter to describe a magical world filled with talking animals. While delightfully playful, the poem nevertheless contains a deeper current—one that is filled with a poignant spiritual message that appeals to the natural world and humankind's need to respect it.
Part One consists of the previously published children's book The Magic Mist. It tells the story of a young boy who is transported by a strange mist to a mystical land and befriended by the colorful bush creatures who inhabit it. Mesmerized by this fleeting experience, the boy can’t help but wonder if it was all a dream.
Part Two finds the young boy all grown up and longing to find the mystical world once again. His wish comes true when, one day, the mist engulfs him, and he is joyfully reunited with friends both old and new. But when a mysterious presence begins to haunt him, a heart-wrenching truth about the bush animals is revealed.
Capturing the natural world at its most sublime, An Australian Bush Fantasy wistfully reminds us of God’s plans and humanity’s role in caring for our fellow creatures.
