Like in case of the first book, this beautiful character art is the first thing that takes your breath away when you pick up the book. Kal is the hawt space elf of the story and his face on the cover is perfect. (Still dreaming of Fin on the third book, though🤩)
We pick up where we left off in AR (read it, guys, you won't regret it) and from the first page it is action and twists and drama and more twists and incredible space technology and secrets and mysetry and growing as a team and fighting and trust issues and more twists. To be honest I anticipated most of the twists because the story is just so perfectly built if you pay attention to the details you can figure stuff out, but it just made it more enjoyable. And of course there were some stuff I did not expect. At. All.
The authors built this story so carefully, tributing all the greatest Sci-fi creations and keeping you on your toes chapter after chapter that it is impossible to put it down.
Building a story around a squad is hard, because multiple amazing heroes and heroines have to be created that are unique and have their own past and personality that makes them one of a kind. And Amie and Jay manages to bring all squad members as close as possible so that you love them fiercly and would probably give up an organ to see them safely through this journey. Every POV is unique and in this book we get to know more about the past, hardships and emotions and fears of each character.
And they did it again. Every chapter is exciting and sometimes like an action movie. Every little word is important because they might be a clue for something 100 pages from now. The mystery is there from the first page.
It is captivating.💞
Lets start with the bad news: an ancient evil - you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal and it is about to be unleased. Now onto the goods news - Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They have just got to take care of a few small distractions first. Oh like a clan of gremps who'd like to rearrange their favorite faces. And also the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be and will stop at nothing to get their hands of Auri.
Then of course, Kal's long lost sister, who's not exactly happy to see her baby brother and she has the Syldrathi army at her back. Basically with half the known glaxay on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted. when they learn that Hadfield has been found, it's time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship all but vanished and it left Auri as it's sole survivor. Now the black box might be what saves them however time is short and if Auri can't learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all of their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV. This installment of the sory has shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gift, inappropriate tight bodysuits and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion's most unforgettable heroes.
This one had me guessing from page one and the twist in the tales made me sit up and question everything which i had read in the previous installment. It is amazing how a plot twist can turn the whole story up side down and makes me question if there is going to be another installment in this epic sci-fi fantasy. I can not wait to see what the author come up with next and will always recommend this to other readers.
I forced myself to read this slowly because it was truly amazing, beautiful really...and that cliffhanger? Ouch just squish my already shattered soul into the ground. My poor Kal...
This was fantastically written, really well planned and thought out and the plot only thickens, our team is split up and in a mess....it's basic DnD 101 guys, never split the party!
Kal is right there in my heart along with Rhysand, Cardan, Hunt, Will and Gem and every other sweet, damaged and broody hero I've come to love. Ugh...my heart bleeds!
Need.Book.Three....as soon as poss, please :)
Another very small issue I had with the book was everyone turning against Kal when they found out who his father was. To me, their reactions completely justified his lying. It was obvious that he had disowned the man years ago and that the squad was his new family. He risked his life over and over for all of them. His father might have killed Scarlett's but he also was responsible for Kal's mother's death. If anything, I would think they should bond over that. Kal is obviously nothing like his father, clearly ashamed, and I was in disbelief that they would so quickly abandon him. And even ignoring that, it seemed obvious that he was trustworthy since the cigarallo saved him. He wouldn't have been given it of he was going to betray Aurora. I suppose everyone reacts differently and this must be what the authors would do but I just thought it was unrealistic that nobody on the squad would defend him.
