Lily Morton hits all the good tropes with this fun rom-com set in beautiful Amsterdam: Arlo Wright has always had feelings for his older brother Tom’s best friend, Jack Cooper. When Tom organises a trip to Amsterdam for friends and family so he can propose to his boyfriend, a mix-up leaves Jack sharing Arlo’s hotel room. This thoroughly enjoyable festive story has lots of heart-warming moments and the best of British self-deprecating humour. The two leads make a lovely, decent odd-couple: whereas Jack is fastidious, controlled, and firmly polite, Arlo is unapologetically untidy, free-spirited, and says what he thinks - usually with one foot in his mouth! Audio narrator Joel Leslie handled all the Dutch and British accents so impressively and his comedic timing hit each note perfectly.

Merry Measure was a fun & light hearted read with very little drama. Arlo Wright is just adorable - he’s completely klutzy, and totally gone for his older brother’s best friend Jack. Arlo is very quick witted & humorous, and responsible for making me smile
constantly while reading this.

Jack Cooper is the more serious of the pairing in this instance ( I’ve read 5 books from this author over the last 5 days, and there’s always one funny & one more serious in the couple pairings ), & he needs more of Arlo’s humour & clumsiness in his life. The extra scene of these 2 together provided in the authors newsletter is worth the read for anyone who enjoyed Merry Measure.

I absolutely loved this book!! It’s so sweet and witty, the characters are so personable and lovely, and the story just makes me so happy 🥺

This was one of those books that I knew I was going to enjoy from the very beginning, and I’m so happy that I decided to pick it up! Some characters and stories take a minute to adjust to, but I felt like I was swept up in both from the start. Arlo and Jack are beautiful main characters, and honestly, I want to be friends with these guys.

Everything flowed so smoothly, and it’s one of those books where I just didn’t want to put it down! (Case on point: it’s currently 10:47am and I have yet to get out of bed because I was not moving until I finished reading this masterpiece).

Lily Morton really knows how to tell a well crafted, very descriptive story that flows seamlessly and has a superb cast of main and secondary characters.
Arlo is sweet, witty, snarky, completely disorganised and hilariously clumsy. Jack is his brothers best friend, very precise, obsessed with details, always wound too tight and Arlo is just the person he needs in his life.

They also happen to have secret crushes on each other, buckets of chemistry and end up having to share a room together on holiday in Amsterdam.

I can’t tell you how often I laughed, and snorted, at the banter and clumsiness of Arlo whilst reading this hilarious rom com. It started on the very first page, had me hooked from there and turned into a one sitting read.

This is such a fun, enjoyable, low angst Christmas rom com that I cannot recommend highly enough

This book was pure joy. Arlo has been in love with his brother’s best friend Jack since he was young. In Arlo’s eyes Jack is perfect and he sees himself as clumsy and uncoordinated and nothing like Jacks usual dates. They find themselves together when they are heading to Amsterdam for a few days as Arlo’s brother Tom wants to propose to his boyfriend and has invited their closest friends to join him. Jack is newly single and has his eyes set on Arlo.......and that’s where the fun begins.
This is a lovely story and I enjoyed it so much😍😍

I love the writing of this author, it makes me feel good. All her books are real. Real life people without the big billionaires just ordinary people.
So Jack and Arlo will make you laugh and see love anew. This story has laughs and great views of Amsterdam. One of the most beautiful happy places to visit, and the author has conveyed that.
So enjoy a fun, delightful read of how a group of friends enjoy their visit in Amsterdam and how two of them fall in love.
Couldn’t ask for a better read.

I need a shelf that has more than just Favourites because this one would be right at the top.

It’s like all the best snarking characters in Lily’s world got together and donated parts of their DNA to add into an egg which had been created from all the most loving and caring protective cinnamon buns found in her books, and then Arlo was born.

He’s an absolute joy, a snarker of the highest calibre and as clumsy as a baby. Fortunately, he’s had Jack, his older brother Tom’s best friend, on hand throughout most of his life to rescue him from all these mishaps he keeps landing in.

The crush level has been intense, but when the two end up sharing a room on a long weekend trip to Amsterdam, not long after Jack’s broken up with the latest version of his hideously perfect and tedious boyfriends that the sparks really fly.

Because Jack’s got a crush too…

I’m not going to go into more detail for this one. Except to say that Lily might have broken her record for how quickly I almost choked to death while drinking a cup of tea (within the first couple of paragraphs) and also how big the smile was on my face while reading.

This book is a guaranteed pick-me-up if you feel down, it’s a mini travel guide to the delights of Amsterdam and it’s about as festive romance as they can get.

It has enough UST to fuel a rocket; it has soulful stares and lusty looks; it’s got a brilliant cast of secondary characters; and the meet/cute for Arlo’s parents might just be the best I’ve ever read in any book – #justsaying #HotGossipWereHot – along with an Epilogue that will have you doing one of those heartfelt sighs that something could be so perfect.

Get it, read it, and give yourselves a Merry Little Christmas. And that cover?! Natasha Snow outdoing herself yet again.

After the crappy year that we've all had in 2020 the timing of this story is the perfect pick me up to end the year. It's a really lovely feel good take of the love between two men who have known each other for most of their lives. Arlo has had a massive crush on his brother Tom's best friend Jack since he was 11 and Jack was 15. The story is mostly set in Amsterdam just before Christmas. Tom has decided to arrange a short vacation to propose to his boyfriend Bee. Arlo and Jack together with a couple of other friends are all along for the occasion but due to a mix up with the reservation at the hotel Arlo and Jack and up sharing a room, and so their story begins. The book is full of Lily Morton's usual snark and laugh out loud comedy, honestly I cried with laughter whilst reading this book. There is nothing to dislike about this story apart from Jack's parents and his ex boyfriend - but Arlo's family and friends more than make up for the horrible people, so it's all good in the end.
Lily should receive a massive thank you from Amsterdam tourist board, I imagine everyone who reads this book will be planning a trip to Amsterdam as soon as Covid-19 permits.

I have loved every book by Lily Morton and this one is no exception. It’s a Christmas standalone featuring Jack & Arlo and their extended group of friends and family. It’s perfect - starting at tales of an unrequited childhood crush on brother’s best friend, and going up to current day. Throw in a trip to Amsterdam, a shared hotel room, some funny friends, hilarious parents and a horrible ex and it’s a perfect mix of a sweet Christmas story. Loved it!

Lily Morton’s books never disappoint for me, and this one is no exception. The characters are real and flawed and written with so much depth I always half expect one to walk around the corner while I’m reading.

This book has all the snark and humour I’d expect from a lily Morton novel, as well as plenty of heat and adorable moments, with the added bonus of being set in Amsterdam. The descriptions are vivid enough that I can imagine being there and honestly I now need to make it a winter holiday destination.

Beautiful as ever, perfect for anyone who just likes good romance and good writing.

This author has the ability to make you laugh and absolutely love her books. The characters are well thought out and so rounded. Arlo is a loveable man who is just so happy. Unfortunately he’s so clumsy but that’s part of his charm. Jack is so different from Arlo but perfect for each other. The flight scene is so funny. I absolutely hate flying so totally understand Arlo’s feeling.
I don’t think my husband will forgive me for reading this book during the night. I woke him up at 3 o’clock with laughing so much. It’s a truly feel good read.
