The author also wrote a non-fiction book called Redbill about Australia's maritime history in that region and you get the feeling that all
the colours and textures in Atomic Sea are very carefully and truthfully painted from her first-hand knowledge of the area.
Also, the protagonist is female and in her forties - she's not James Bond, not bullet-proof. Completely relatable. And in a world where there's a lot of men with a lot of guns, it was a perspective that I found pretty enjoyable!
Giving this five stars. The author has a strikingly clear voice - railing hard against jingoism and the insanity of human destruction - and it should
definitely be heard. Also the quoll thing reminded me of the Northern Lights daemons - just beautiful :)
