Product Description

It's Dangerous to Go Alone!
Mia Strong never expected to be deciding the rest of her life at age twenty-two. Is she willing to become a human lab rat? Does she need to write a will? Does she ever want a family--and if so, with whom? She can't dodge the tough questions--not if she plans to live to see twenty-three. With her life hanging in the balance, Mia wants nothing more than to rely on Adam Drake, but he's hurt her before.

You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth...
Adam Drake knows that he's made mistakes, but when he discovers what Mia's facing, he realizes how much those mistakes could cost him. Now he has to choose between being the man who can save Mia's life or the man she can love. No matter how much it tears him apart, Adam knows he has to put Mia first...even if it means he's out of the picture entirely.

Will their love survive this epic battle or is it game over?

This novel is the third book in Adam and Mia's trilogy, but they will be featured in future Gaming the System novels. Their fourth book, Worth Any Cost is available now.

This third book salvaged what was ruined (for me) in the second book of the series. Mia was such a pain in the second but received the consequences of her behaviour in this third book. I guess if she hadn't been insufferable in the second book, the third book wouldn't have had a very strong premise, so maybe I can't fault Aubrey for it ... didn't make it more enjoyable to get through, though.

I liked that the male lead, Adam, didn't continue to be loving and caring and considerate because that's just what he had to be in a romantic novel like this. He showed some back-bone and self-interest which I appreciated. He's still a fantasy (rich, young and handsome of course) but a slightly more human one than a lot of other books of the genre provide.

The writing style was good for the most part, but sometimes also slightly in your face, i.e. when gaming terms and references where explained so that the reader could understand. It was like a play where the actors stop, turn to the audience, define a word they just used and then turn back to one another to continue the play. I understand the need to explain, but would've liked it to have been a bit more subtle at times.

All in all, a solid conclusion for the two leads. The story spanning the three books was certainly original, sometimes annoying, and sometimes very satisfying. It's nice to see a portrayal of 'relationships can be damn hard work sometimes'.
