New York Times bestselling author Laurie London presents ASSASSIN'S TOUCH, the first book in the Iron Portal paranormal romance series. Enter a darkly sensual world where secret portals separate modern and ancient realms, band-of-brother heroes fight evil together, and sworn enemies dare to become passionate lovers.

Haunted by loss, Cascadian assassin Rickert D'Angelus is on a mission of vengeance. Determined to stop the Pacifican army from finding a portal to his world, he leads a group of warriors into New Seattle with one goal--to kill all Pacifican soldiers.

Agent Neyla Trihorn had the perfect life until a deadly accident revealed her latent para-abilities. Now, the former fashion designer is the Pacifican army's hottest commodity in their fight against the invaders.

When Rickert discovers a beautiful, unconscious soldier on a cold mountain ledge near the portal, he realizes she's a Protection-Talent and cannot be killed. To prevent the army from using her skills again, he takes her as his prisoner instead.

But when he pulls her into his arms, a sexy and compelling vision appears, awakening something inside him. Something he can't ignore.

Torn between duty and passion, Rickert must decide if the vision is a Talent trick designed to foil the enemy or the answer to his deepest desires...

Authors Note: All of the Iron Portal books are standalone titles with no cliffhangers. Each one has a new couple and story-arc. They are hot paranormal romances with band-of-brother heroes, strong heroines, lots of suspense and danger, and plenty of sexy times. I hope you enjoy them!

The very talented Ms. London's new series Iron Portal has everything you want to read in a book.  Adventure, Sex,  you name it this book has it.
Nyla Trihorn was a Protection -Talent didn't really like her job, she was forced to join the Army The Pacificans for war and had to give her little shop. On a mission one of Nyla's teammates attacks her. Rickert is the leader of The Cascadian Warriors who are the protectors of the Portal. Finding Nyla, Rickert was going to put her in prison BUT when he touched he had a vision of him and Nyla together.... I was gifted  this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

The beginning of what should be an interesting series. Being a novella, it's a fairly quick read, but I think it would have worked a little better if it had been expanded out in places. The following instalments will have plenty to build on though. A decent, original read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aye! A quick read! 4 November 2012

Loved it! I've read Laurie's other series (Sweetblood) so when I saw that she'd written a new book I had to buy it. I read it in about 2 hours - couldn't put it down.

This is the first book in Laurie London's IRON PORTAL series and centers around Neyla and Rickert. Neyla is a "Protection Talent" and has been forced to give up her dream of designing her own clothing, dresses and costumes to join the army & help protect the world against a barbarian society. Rickert (read as hot guy in a kilt) is from another world that mirrors our own - Cascadia. Together they realize just how similar they are and where the danger really lives.

Agent Neyla Trihorn of the Special Tactics and Response Team had a rough time with some of her teammates not accepting her but she never left that trivial matter stopping her for doing her job efficiently.

Rickert D'Angelus a Warrior of the Iron Guild was out on a mission to protect the Iron Portal from the soldiers when he witnessed an attack on Neyla by one of her "comrades".

After taking care of the soldier who harmed Neyla, Rickert decided to take her back to his world to keep her away from the soldiers who were using her Talent powers to get to his people.....what he didn't expect was to feel an intense attraction to Neyla.

Could he continue his mission even if it meant he had to choose between his duty and the Talent, he was falling in love with?!.....that what he had to figure out while Neyla had her own questions of the heart to answer.

A very pleasant book, no matter what love always wins....Laurie London did a fantastic job.

Good start to a good series...There is two worlds connected through portals one more modern one more medieval..the characters are written well and the concepts of both worlds fleshed out enough but just didn't compel me like some of my other series...I still periodically re-read these stories but this one never really truly grabbed my attention but it still is a good read and nice paranormal romance...when two supposed enemies collide you never can tell what love will do

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting first book but could have used a little more time to develop the characters/relationships 29 June 2015

3.5 Stars. Assassin's Touch is the first book in Laurie London's Iron Portal Series. The plot centers around two worlds at war, who can only reach each other through portals. One world is filled with people who have magic, warriors, and a simple life. In fact world (Cascadia) is very much like medieval times. The other world is high tech, an army and just a few people with magic (Talents) who are forced into the army to help fight the war. The army is protecting the portals and fighting the "heathens" while making sure that the people hear about the bombings and violence that is allegedly done by the Cascadians. The Cascadians venture through the portal to fight the Army and stop them from coming through the portal. Both sides believe they are in the right and "protecting" their way of life.

THe main characters for this book are Neyla and Rickert. Neyla is a Protection Talent which means she can basically put a force-field around a certain area so that no one can harm anyone within that area. She has been "drafted" by the army to work to fight the barbarians from Cascadia as they sneak into her world. She doesn't fit in the army and a lot of the soldiers don't like having a talent assigned to their unit.

Rickert is a leader of a unit of Cascadian warrior who are protecting the portals from the Pacificans. He is passionate about what he is doing and loves his way of life in Cascadia. During a mission he meets up with Neyla who has been attacked by one of her own soldiers and realizing that she is a talent he kidnaps her so that her talent can't be used by the Cascadian Army. His intent is to have her thrown into the prisons in his world. However, when he touches her he is given a vision of the two of them making love and although he isn't sure if it's a trick or not he can't deny he is intrigued with her.

I liked both the characters and the basic plot. However, the amount of time that Neyla decided that everything she believed in was wrong was ridiculous. I also didn't buy the two of them falling in love so quickly. I would of liked to see things take a bit more time and see some more development in the relationship. Rickert put everything on the line for a woman he didn't know or trust a bit too quickly for me. I thought going from rival worlds trying to kill each other to being in love in a matter of days was silly.

There were also a few abrupt transitions in the timing in the story. We would jump to a future time ahead and I missed reading about what would have transpired in the "time" we didn't see. However, overall I enjoyed the story and the world building and I will read the next book.

Assassin’s Touch (Iron Portal # 1) by Laurie London
I received this book in exchange for an honest review by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on
I fantastic read... I was quickly drawn in and became absolutely engrossed in this book until the very end. A successful mix of hot steamy sex, romance and adventure set in two worlds linked by a portal, one which is modern and the other almost medieval in nature. This book follows the story of Rickert, an Iron Guild Warrior and Neyla, a beautiful woman with a Protection-Talent, both from a different world who fate brings together. The characters are brilliant and very well defined. The writing is rich, descriptive and flows effortlessly. With its unique plot this book has a refreshing twist and is original and creative. A wonderful read that I enjoyed immensely. But I have to warn you that this book does leave you wanting more. I will definitely be looking out for more of this talented authors work.
